Future Climate
Future Climate – Engineering Solution
Future Climate - Engineering Solutions is an international project initiated by The Danish Society of Engineers (IDA) together with The Swedish Association of Graduate Engineers, The Norwegian Society of Engineers and Technologists (NITO) and The Association of German Engineers (VDI). The purpose of the project is to demonstrate sustainable energy technologies and solutions in order to support national and international efforts to reduce emissions of greenhouse gases (GHG).
13 associations of engineers from 12 different countries worldwide participate in the Future Climate project. The core of the project is formed by national climate plans developed by the participating associations.
The IPCC’s fourth assessment report (2007) concluded unequivocally that the rise in global temperatures was due to a rise in Greenhouse gas levels caused by manmade activities and waste products. The IPCC’s best case scenario estimates that the concentration of CO2-equivalents can be stabilised by securing global temperatures to rise below 2º Celsius.
The goal of the Future Climate project is to demonstrate climate solutions and technologies that can contribute toward a scenario in which the global temperature does not increase above 2º Celsius.
The project aims, through coordinated effort, to participate in the international climate debate in the period up to the COP 15 meeting in 2009 in Copenhagen. The results of the Future Climate Project will be presented at an international conference on 3rd - 4th September 2009 in Copenhagen. This conference will put forward the joint recommendations from the participating organisations addressing the UN, the parties to the Kyoto protocol, and others who will commit themselves to the new climate agreement.
