Freedom Ranger chickens

The Freedom Ranger chicken cross was first developed in France in the 1960's. They were developed to meet the standards of the French program, Label Rouge. Label Rouge takes pride in its program because birds are high quality. Many restaurants in France use them. In 2000 these birds came to the United States via Canada but within two to three years the hatchery closed down and sold their STOCK. Small farms choose to raise these chickens as an alternative to the Cornish Cross.

Red, bronze and grey are the colors of these birds feathers. They are slow growing, an example of this growth is that it will take at least 12 weeks, before they weigh 4 to 5 pounds dressed. This slow growth lends itself to a chicken who is free range. Freedom Rangers will have a long body, small breast and longer legs.

Freedom Rangers are an alternative to the Cornish Cross. Many rave AbOUT the taste which is due to their slow growth and free range ability.
