Fred Bass (businessman)
Fred Bass (June 28, 1928 - January 3, 2018) was an American businessman, best known as the owner of New York City's Strand Bookstore.
Early life
Bass was the son of Shirley (née Vogel) and Benjamin Bass. His father was an emigrant from Lithuania who founded the Strand Bookstore.
Bass had two sisters: Dorothy Bass and Eleanor Bass Allen.
His daughter Nancy is married to Oregon Senator Ron Wyden. In an interview with Manhattan's The Villager, he said: “You never know what someone is going to walk in with ... treasure hunt."
Death
Bass died of congestive heart failure on January 3, 2018, in Manhattan at the age of 89.<ref name=NYTFredObit />
