Frank Da Silva
Frank Da Silva (born February 7, 1965) in the town of Aparecida, state of São Paulo, is a Brazilian naturalized British. He is a self taught documentary filmmaker whose projects combine naturalism and photo-realism.
Frank was raised in Brazil, dropping out of school in order to set up his own advertising company at the age of 22. Five years later he decided to leave Brazil and travel the world, finally settling down in the UK to study photography, art, information technology and environmental science. After several years of experience in graphic design, event organization, online marketing and advertising, Frank directed a number of short films and created concepts for a series of short sci-fi/fantasy films.
After studying filmmaking at the Raindance Film School (see Raindance Film Festival) in London, he now plans to make his directorial debut with the feature-length documentary Earth 2.0. Frank Da Silva is currently represented by Velatropa Films and Earth 2 Productions in the UK.
Current projects
- Pre production - Feature-length documentary film: Earth 2.0 - Movie (TBA) - Earth 2.0 is a catalytic feature length documentary set for release some time in 2012. The central premise of the film is that the current Earth 1.0 cultural operating system – based as it is upon greed, personal advantage, artificial boundaries, and ecological insensitivity – is corrupt and unsustainable. Earth 2.0 will highlight and bring into focus the new operating principles of symbiosis and co-operation – between one another and between our species and the rest of the biosphere.
Future projects
- Orbs - a short sci-fi/fantasy film.
- Documentary short film: Notes From the Underground (TBA) - a journey through time with Lee Harris, who will explore some of the experiences and social history of the last fifty years, and the events that he participated in and influenced him.
- Graphic Novel/film: Dry-Corpse, based in a Brazilian mythology legend.
- Feature film: Aparecidolatria (working title), (TBA) - a sci-fi/fantasy story set in the town of Aparecida, state of São Paulo, Brazil in a near future exploring religion and consumerism.
- Americas Full Circle: An overland trip around the three Americas. The project aim to visit all countries in the South, Central and North Americas by the TerraXtreme Team. The trip will start and finish in the town of Aparecida, state of São Paulo in Brazil. It will begin in the southern hemisphere summer of 2013 if budget and sponsorship is in place. The objective of the project is to have a documentary made to register the cultural diversity of the 23 countries to be visited.
