Frag lotto
In January 2004, Interactive Gaming UK introduced a new style of tournament for computer game tournaments. Rather than the best player winning the prize at the conclusion of the event, each player or team are given a number of virtual “raffle tickets” based upon how well they did or how many points they scored. A random ticket is then drawn at the conclusion and the player or team with that ticket number wins the prize. Everyone stands a chance of winning, regardless of skill, and those that are better will have a greater chance as they win more tickets!
So how does it work? Well if you score 80 points (or "Frags") in a games tournament held at IGUK gaming centres in the UK, and your friend sitting next to you scores 60 points, you receive 80 "tickets" and your friend gets, yep, 60. So you get 80 chances of winning the prize, your friend gets 60 chances!
The Frag lotto format has increased participation dramatically in gaming tournaments as it doesn't matter how good you are at a game, you still have a chance of winning the top prize.
IGUK have awarded over £70,000 worth of prizes to gamers all over the UK since its conception.
