Fouad Awada

Fouad Awada is a French and Lebanese town planner, born in Beirut in 1954, working in France since 1976. He has a Ph.D. in Urban Planning from the École Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (1991) and Architect DESA (1980). He exercised his career mainly in the "Institut d'Aménagement et d'Urbanisme de la région Ile-de-France" where he was Deputy General Manager from 1998. Administrator of Urba 2000, founder of URBAMED 1, former Director of Staff of the President of the Regional Council of Ile-de-France, former director of the Paris Planning Agency (APUR), Vice-President of Urbandata, member of the leading committe of Ponts Alliance 2, board member of the "Thesis on the City".

Main work

Fouad Awada is the principal author of the historical work "40 years in Île-de-France, 1960-2000" ed. IAURIF 2000. He participated in drafting the "Livre Blanc" of the Ile-de-France in 1990 and the Ile-de-France Master Plan from 1990 to 1994. He has also piloted an audit of Sophia Antipolis and helped finalizing the Master Plan of Lille Metropolis in 2001.

Fouad Awada has led the development of many major urban plans around the Mediterranean with the post-conflict development program forsouthern Lebanon (1999), the National Physical Master Plan of Lebanon (SDATL, 2004), the Urban Development Master Plan of the Greater Casablanca (2008), the master plan of the city and the regeneration plan of the Medina of Tripoli (2008 to 2010) and the master plan of Benghazi - Libya (2009-2010).

In the years 1980 and 1990 he participated in developing the master plan for the metropolitan area of Beirut (1986), and initiated the rehabilitation of the Pine Wood of Beirut (1994).

He was in 2005, a member of the International Jury for the reconstruction of the Martyrs Square in Beirut and in 2006 member of the international jury for the development of the site of the former International Airport of Casa-Anfa Casablanca and in 2007 member of the international jury for the proposed extension of the Euroméditerranée operation in Marseille.

Fouad Awada has worked for 7 years in the Staff of the President of the Regional Council of Ile-de-France, first under the presidency of Pierre-Charles Krieg (1990-1992) and then under that of Michel Giraud (1992-1998) he was Deputy Director of Staff between 1993 and 1997 and then chief of staff in 1997 and 1998.
