For Science

For Science were a punk rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey made up of John Slover (vocals), Joe Steinhardt (guitar), and a rotating rhythm section which at times included members of The Ergs!, and other local bands. They played their last show at the 2009 annual Don Giovanni Records Showcase.

History

Originally known as Skynet, For Science was started by high school friends Joe Steinhardt (Guitar) and John Slover (Vocals) in Princeton, New Jersey, having previously collaborated in the group The Peacocks. The addition of drummer Ian Thompsen completed the original lineup. Skynet wrote and recorded ten demo songs at their very first meeting, eight of which would go on to be re-recorded for what would become For Science's first album.

In the Summer of 2006, "Revenge For Hire" was released on Don Giovanni Records which gained them a following in both the New Brunswick basement scene as well as the pop punk scene resulting in them playing many shows with other local pop punk bands such as The Ergs!, and The Steinways. Alongside the release of "Revenge For Hire" came the first significant change in the band's lineup. Mike Yannich of The Ergs! and Chris Pierce formerly of Doc Hopper picked up where bassist Ian Thompsen and drummer Chris "Coastman" Miteritondo left off. Though short-lived, this roster collaborated to write and record the EP "Way Out Of Control" in the Fall of 2006. Eventually, the band became too full-time to be tied to the schedule of The Ergs! whose popularity was significantly increasing at the time, and Mike Yannich was kicked out. A new lineup was formed with Zach Gajewski, with whom Steinhardt also ran Don Giovanni Records, and longtime friend Brian Gorsegner. By the time Way Out Of Control was released, the newly assembled For Science was already preparing its third, and what would ultimately become their final, record.

In 2007, they signed to Insubordination Records and released Tomorrow's Just Another Day that October, followed shortly after by a ten-day midwestern tour. In November of 2008, Slover unexpectedly left for New Orleans while on drugs. This resulted in the breakup of the band. Slover returned for one last show at the 2009 Don Giovanni Records Showcase in February of that year.
