Folklore ensemble Volodar

The folklore ensemble "Volodar" – sings archaic songs and ceremonies of the Central Polesye of Ukraine and Belarus. All material has been written down by participants of collective on research folklore ethnographic expeditions.

The information about collective

In the Europe there were very few places where in present time there is a folklore in the authentic form. If the repertoir of folklore ensemble contains songs and ceremonies, which participants of collective have collected only on their research expeditions is also very much a unusual occurrence. Folklore collective Volodar since 1993 investigates, brings in archive, reconstructs and represents in the world in the authentic form traditional Ukrainian songs and calendar, family, wedding ceremonies of ancestors.

Folklore ensemble Volodar has been created by Irina Klimenko in the spring of 1993. The ensemble sings in style of "authentic singing" which was based in Ukraine with the Kiev folklore ensemble Drevo (art director Evgen Efremov). In 2003 the art director of ensemble becomes Margarita Skazhenik – who is the ethnomusicologist, teacher, researcher of the scientific of Research laboratory of musical ethnography at National musical academy of Ukraine named by P.I.Chaykovskiy.

The repertoir of group includes songs and calendar ceremonies which have been written down by participants of collective on the research expeditions to Polesye of Ukraine and Belarus. Calendar ceremonies and wedding - specificity of repertoir of group, that for today is a rarity. We work in regions where well was held in remembrance about archaic ceremonies, inhabitants in a youth still took part in them, in some villages calendar ceremonies till now are spent.

The group sings traditional calendar and family songs and ceremonies, in particular, Christmas Carol, Schedrovka, To go with the Goat, To see off Winter, To call Spring, round dances, ceremonies of the Troica, Ceremonies with fire on Kupalo, Petrovka, songs and ceremonies of a harvest and also wedding, lyrical, soldier's, humorous songs.

A band is the permanent participant of Kyiv creative meetings of young people, numerous Kyiv holidays.

Expeditions

Margarita Skazhenik is engaged in professional research activity since 1996. Margarita the head of expeditions to villages of Ukraine where it writes down musical folklore and ethnographic data from countrymen. Since 2001 Oleg Korobov takes part in the organization of expeditions and works of ensemble. Also scientific researches are spent by Galina Kachor. During since 1996 for 2009 by us it has been lead more than 70 expeditions and it is surveyed more than 330 villages in Ukraine and Belarus. Territories in which have been carried out researches: the Central Polesye of Ukraine and Belarus, Zhitomir, Kiev, Poltava, Chernigov, Cherkassy, Gomel (Belarus), Bialystok (Poland) region.

On a card are noted by orange color of territory, which we investigated in Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.
