Fish Prawn Crab (drinking game)
This game is based on the gambling dice game, (魚蝦蟹). [English Translation "Fish, Prawn, Crab"]. This game originated from Vietnam but has been widely played in China since the early 1800s.
The game uses 3 dices with each side having a different item. Using a normal dice as a reference the location of the pictures are as follows. 1: Coin 2: Prawn 3: Chicken 4: Fish 5: Crab 6: Bottle.
The table where the game is played has the pictures of the 6 items on the dice. Money is placed on the item the player predicts will appear on the next roll. If the dice reveals the item the player gambled on, the player is paid to a ratio of 1:1. If two of the same item is revealed, the player is paid to a ratio of 2:1 and if three of the same item is revealed, the player is paid to a ratio of 3:1.
The "Fish Prawn Crab" Drinking game is a modification of the traditional game and instead the goal of the game is to make your opponents drink.
Rules
At the beginning of each game, each player is given 5 chips of equal value. New players can join the game but to exit the game, a player must roll the 'penalty dice'. This will be discuss later.
Similar to the "Fish Prawn Crab" Gambling game, the payout ratio of the drinking game is the same. However, since no money is involved, once a player loses all of his/her chips, he/she must roll the 'penalty dice' to receive 5 more chips.
If a player decides to quit after losing all of his/her chips, the player must roll it twice.
To promote game play, all players must bet in each match.
Retribution
As the objective of the game is to make your opponents drink, a player with more than 10 chips may choose to sacrifice 10 chips to force another player to roll the 'penalty dice'. Likewise, if a person has more than 20 chips, the player may choose to sacrifice 20 chips to nominate 2 players.
The Omen
Once a player reaches 66 chips, everyone, except the player will have to roll the 'penalty dice'
Penalty Dice
The Penalty Dice is a standard "Fish Prawn Crab" dice but only one is rolled during the penalty period. The player who rolls the dice will have to endure the penalty.
Although the penalty can be discussed and chosen by the players at the beginning of the game, traditionally, the coin and the bottle represents drinking; Fish and the Chicken represents slaps on the wrist by all of the player; and the prawn and the crab represents "Knuckle Cracking".
"Knuckle Cracking" is the hitting of the player's knuckles by either the player with the most chips or the person who nominated the player for penalty.
A less painful penalty is the flicking of a person's forehead by the 3 people with the most chips. If more than 3 people share the top 3 number of chips, the conflict is resolved by a game of scissors, paper, rock.
Other forms of penalty include different types/quantity of alcohol or exercise such as push-ups.
If a person is not allowed to drink alcohol, that person can roll the dice again.
