First Intervention Team
First Intervention Teams (FIT) in Brussels and Wallonia or Snel Inzetbare Teams (SIT) in Flanders are units managed by the Belgian Red Cross for the Federal Public Service of Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment. FIT teams are deployed to assist the regular emergency services in case of an event with a large amount of injured people.
Staff
FIT vehicles are manned by Red Cross volunteers which have received special training about working in large casualty situations.
Vehicles
There are two types of FIT vehicles, FIT-MED and FIT-LOG. FIT-MED vehicles have more medically focussed equipment on board and the FIT-LOG vehicles have more logistically related equipment.
FIT vehicles look a lot like regular emergency ambulances, as they are also deployed by the 112 dispatch center. Thave the same yellow base color, yellow-green Battenburg markings on the side and yellow-orange chevron pattern on the back. The only difference is the "FIT" or "SIT" markings on the front and back instead of the word "ambulance".
