Film Northants

A pilot short film competition set up by the Northampton Chronicle & Echo in 2008. People of any age living, working or studying in Northamptonshire were invited to send a film of no more than five minutes length to The Newspaper. All the entries were place on the newspaper's website www.northamptonchron.co.uk

A panel of three judges drew up a shortlist of eight finalists and the public were invited to vote for their favourite film through the newspaper or online.

All eight finalists had their films screened at Vue Cinema in Sol Central Northampton on July 21 2008 at a special red carpet awards night. Trophies for the overall winner and two runners up were presented after the screenings by David Summers, editor of the Northampton Chronicle & Echo.

The winning film was made by Northampton College students and was a horror flick titled Confined.

The 2008 judges were:

Tim Coley, film lecturer, The University of Northampton; John Tredrea, manager, Vue Cinema Northampton; Lily Canter, features editor, Northampton Chronicle & Echo

The competition was invented, organised and hosted by Lily Canter. Film Northants 2009 is due to be launched in March.
