Feng Wenqian

Feng Wengian (1896–1963), also known as Liu Yi, born in Zhuozhou, Hebei Province, is a philosophy educator of the People's Republic of China.

Life

From 1912 to 1917, he studied at Nankai Middle School and its university preparatory program in Tianjin. In 1917, he entered Grinnell College in the United States and graduated in 1920. From 1920 to 1922, he pursued graduate studies at the University of Chicago. From 1922 to 1928, he studied philosophy and history at the University of Berlin in Germany.

After returning to China, he served as a lecturer and later associate professor in the Department of Philosophy at Central University in Nanjing, a professor of philosophy at Nankai University, a professor and acting chair of the Department of Philosophy at the National Southwestern Associated University in Kunming, and later as a professor of philosophy at Nankai University. He ali served concurrently as dean of the College of Liberal Arts, chair of the Departments of Philosophy and History, and director of the Tianjin History Museum.
