FantasMic (song)
"FantasMic" is a song by Nightwish from their album Wishmaster. It was written by Tuomas Holopainen, the keyboardist of the band, and it is considered a tribute to Walt Disney and the movies and characters of the Walt Disney Studio.
Disney references
The song references many Disney films. For example, the "Wish upon a star" is a line (and song) from Pinocchio while referring to the star as "the second star to the right" is a reference to Peter Pan.
Other movies that are referenced are:
- Fantasia - The song mentions Chernabog (Fantasia),Yen Sid, and Bald Mountain.
- Sleeping Beauty - among other lines "A Dragonslayer, The Awakener" that references Prince Philip and "Maleficent's fury/The spindle so luring" references the villain Maleficent and the spindle that Aurora pricks her finger on.
- The Black Cauldron - "Black Cauldron Born".
- The Little Mermaid - "Enchantress, A mermaid in a tale as old as time" (though "tale as old as time" is a line from Beauty and the Beast).
- Mulan - "A girl in the rain swearing to her father's name".
- The Lion King - "A cub of the king betrayed by usurper".
The song also references to Scrooge McDuck. "The Phoenix of White Agony Creek" is a reference to Scrooge McDuck, who found gold in White Agony Creek in his youth.
The song's title and part of its main chorus are both a reference to the water-and-lights show entitled "Fantasmic" that is shown at Disney's Hollywood Studios in Orlando, Flordia and at Disneyland in Anaheim, California. The lines "Where the Warrior's heart is pure. Where the stories will come true" reference the theme of "Fantasmic," which takes place in Mickey's dreamworld.
Of course in a song AbOUT Disney, Mickey Mouse is also referenced, both in lines and in the title of the song. The title takes the name of the performance "Fantasmic," and capitalizes the "m" for "Mic," short for "Mickey." Also, in the line " The Sailor an idol for the six-year-old in me" is referencing Mickey as he was in his premier in Steamboat Willy.
