Fans of Jimmy Century
Fans of Jimmy Century is an independent San Francisco-based electronic band/alternative dance duo headed up by vocalist Alicia Perrone and guitarist Victor James that formed in 2006. They're best known so far for their song "Hot Sahara" which helped steam up Showtime's "The L Word" in 2008, in a scene so sexy it became known by L Word fanatics as "The Hot Sahara Scene." The song went on to climb to #23 on the FMQB Top Dance Radio Charts, with heavy support and airplay on Energy 92.7 SF and Pulse 87 NYC. Features on Ugly Betty, Samantha Who, and The Hills soon followed.
Hot Sahara was the first single off of the full-length album “Twist of the Banshees,” released in 2007. Their next CD release was “The Remixes of Hot Sahara & Blonde Ambition." They became favorites of popular media like Dancemusic.About.com who championed them and awarded them with charting and nods for both “Global Domination,” and “Top 10 Dance Record.” After faring well with the dance crowd (even the purists,) their out-of-the-box, atypical electronic dance sounds gained them an invitation to speak on the “Clubland’s Hitmakers” panel at DJ Times-sponsored DJ Expo 2008 in Atlantic City alongside dance acts Lady GaGa & Jes.
Currently in 2009 they're readying the release of new summer fever-infused EP "Head Go Whoosh," featuring their first single of 2009, "Lola Like This," along with "International," "Hush Madame X," and "Hearts Are Mustangs." This EP marks the additional songwriting collaboration of drummer Allen Chiu. The EP Head Go Whoosh highlights the temptations of summer, just as Hot Sahara did in 2008. They describe themselves as the band named after a boy, writing all of their songs about girls - girls who consume their every waking hour, even operating their own individual Twitter accounts. FOJC releases their records independently on their own label, Ann-Margrock Music. Their previous project, Simon Stinger, was in the process of signing to Elektra in 2004 with Ric Ocasek from The Cars as their A&R, when the record label went through a series of changes which delayed and eventually prevented the signing. Simon Stinger's track "French Connection" was Itunes Single of the Week in May of 2004.
Influenced by everything from indie mods to old school 70’s soul, Fans of Jimmy Century's electronic style has maintained an addictive edge that is hard to quit.
