Fake fake

A fake fake is an authentic piece of art, jewellery, or other valuable artifact, presented or displayed in such a way as to make it Appear non-genuine. This May Be done for the purpose of concealment or as an artistic statement in its own right. The term may have been coined by Philip K. [...], but the concept of hiding things in plain sight goes back a long way through history, and was popularised at an earlier time by Edgar Allan Poe in his short story "The Purloined Letter."
