Erika Yeomans
Erika Yeomans is a graduate of New York University where she studied theater at Circle in the Square Theatre and the NYU's Experimental Theater Wing. She was the co-founder of the performance collective Doorika,, ,,,, (1989-1999) collaborating with various artists such as Casey Spooner 1, Ken Kobland 2, the Aluminum Group, Michael Merino, Andrea Polli, and Jon Langford 3. In 1996, Ira Glass interviewed her for This American Life 4 on her project In Search of Bas Jan's Miraculous'"5',a conceptual documentary on the Dutch artist Bas Jan Ader. It was exhibited as part of the curated program "Tampering with the Reel" at Artists space in June 1997 as well as other film venues such as Cinemateket6 and World Wide Video Festival at the Stedelijk Museum. In 1999, she was commissioned by Levi's for the Expo/Sure and Downtown Arts Festival performance project, "Cardboard, Vinyl, Rhinestones: The Denim Fiance" with visual artist Virgil Marti 7. Her art videos and films have won grants8 and screened at film festivals and art institutions around the world, including: Fort Lauderale International Film Festival9, 291 Gallery , Latitude Exhibition, Portobello Film Festival, ICA 10, Lincoln Center Festival and Film Society's New York Video Festival 11, LA Freewaves, Silver Lake Film Festival, World Wide Video Festival, Impakt Festival 12, Kultprom, Dallas Video Festival 13, Transmediale and Anthology Film Archives. In 2004, she was a Recipient of New York State Council on the Arts grant for her feature film Pose Down , (86 min, super 16, 2007). Her short films and experimental videos The Forgery, Grand Gorge, [Chubby Buddy]14,,Boo! among others can be seen at various festival and galleries in the US, Russia15 and Europe. She collaborated with author Ben Greenman on "Fragments from Death Comes to Britney Spears! the MusicAL"as part of artist Lynne Sachs New York Public Library project Abecedariumnyc.com.She was born in Fort Myers, Florida and currently resides in New York City.
