Epic Rock Radio
Epic Rock Radio, with acronym of ERR, is an Internet radio specialized in broadcasting power metal and symphonic power metal music. ERR is a solo project of Jarrod Kailef and started its operation from July 2004. Currently, with more than 2,100 albums from more than 200 bands/artists, the library of the Epic Rock Radio could be considered as one of the largest collections of power/symphonic metal music broadcasted as an online radio.
The broadcast system is supported by Live365 services, as a result it is only possible to listen to the station using either free or VIP accounts of Live365. Additionally, since the bandwidth needed for streaming the music is provided by the owner of the station, there is no commercial interruptions during the playbacks. This also provides additional features, such as online song request services from the website of the radio.
Currently, the quality of the streaming audio is 64 kbit/s powered by MP3Pro technology which makes it equal to a CD quality of 128kbit/s MP3 broadcast. As a result, in order to receive the highest quality there is a need for an audio player with MP3Pro decoder, which could limit the choice of favoriate media players for the users. Currently, the freeware release of the JetAudio and the combination of Winamp + MP3Pro plug-in are the most suitable choices for the Windows users. For Linux platform, there is a XMMS plug-in for decoding MP3Pro format provided by all4mp3.com.
