Energy Storage Challenge

The Energy Storage Challenge (ESC) runs international business plan competitions to find and select the most promising energy storage technology startups in the world. The ESC holds selection events and a Energy Storage Challenge Summit in London to bring together innovators with government, industry and investors. The ESC belongs to the OmniCompete Group.

History

OmniCompete was founded by MBA students of London Business School in spring 2006; the first energy competition is taking place in summer 2011.

Fundamental IDeaS Challenge 2010

The Fundamental Ideas Challenge is looking for fresh ideas AbOUT systems that can provide transportable energy storage. Proposals must be notably different from existing systems and in this case, an idea is really all we need. Finalists will have the honour of presenting their ideas before sponsors, investors, peers and a panel of independent judges at the first ever Energy Storage Summit in September 2011. Opened 01 Jan 2011 and closes 1 April 2011 First Prize US$250,000.00

Lab Demonstration Challenge 2011

The Lab Demonstration Challenge is seeking systems that can plausibly be implemented within 2–5 years. Systems can still be bench based and may be not completely developed. However, their potential must be evident. As with the previous year, finalists will present their prototypes at the Energy Storage Summit in September 2012. This Challenge will open for entrants on 1 January 2012 and will close 1 April 2012. The winner will receive a prize fund of $1 million.

Full Demonstration Challenge 2012

The Full Demonstration Challenge is open to entrants who can submit a system that is ready for demonstration as systems will be put to the test in real world situations. Finalists will compete against each other at the Energy Storage Summit in September 2013. This Challenge will open for entrants on 1 January 2013 and will close 1 June 2013. The winner will receive a prize fund of $5 million.

Energy Storage Challenge Summit

When? 22 September 2011 Where? 15 Hatfields, an eco-friendly venue in London, UK What? The summit will feature presentations by finalists and the award ceremony of the Fundamental Ideas Challenge, as well as keynote speeches, panel discussions, and a Green Lounge where finalists and others will display their ideas/products.
