Edwin Montepeque
Edwin Montepeque, (born October 16, 1991 in San Marcos, Guatemala) is a Guatemalan football player who plays for Deportivo Marquense.
Club career
Montepeque began his career with Guatemalan club side Marquense aged 15, word of his exceptional talent soon broke out in Guatemala. In the summer of 2008, Montepeque was all set to move to Mexican club Necaxa before an injury to his cruciate ligaments on deadline day meant the deal collapsed. Since recovering from the injury, Montepeque has recently stated in the Guatemalan press his desire to move on from Marquense in order to further his development.
International career
Montepeque has represented Guatemala at U17 level on 5 occasions, scoring 2 goals (both in the same match against Costa Rica U17s). He is yet to make an appearance for either the senior national team or the U20s, but were it not for a damaging cruciate ligaments injury in 2008 which rendered him unfit to play for 7 months it has been widely suggested that he surely would have.
