Ecoisland Partnership CIC

The EcoIsland Partnership CIC is a community interest company with the broad goal of improving the resilience of, and promoting and achieving sustainability on the Isle of Wight. Launched in April 2011, it aims to make the Isle of Wight region energy self-sufficient and carbon neutral by 2020 through technological innovation and by promoting and providing incentives for social change.

Initiatives planned or undertaken by the EcoIsland Partnership CIC include:

  • addressing the Isle of Wight's energy and heating needs through a mixture of renewable technologies, including solar photovoltaic, solar thermal, wind, tidal and geothermal power generation, and through the recovery of energy from waste;
  • coordinating the introduction of smart grid and energy-storage technologies to help to manage the supply and demand issues around renewable power generation, and to aid residents in reducing electricity use and improving efficiency;
  • introducing electric cars and bicycles, and promoting the use of public transport;
  • supporting local food production through the establishment of a local "food hub", managing the supply of food produced by local farmers to Isle of Wight restaurants, shops and hotels;
  • incentivising local purchases through a "greenback" discount card.
  • Hydrogen energy storage and vehicle refuelling station.
