Eastern Virginia Hockey League
The Eastern Virginia Hockey League (EVHL) was formed from the old Southern Virginia Hockey League (SVHL) in 2002. It is a youth ice hockey house league in the Hampton Roads area in eastern Virginia. The league forms teams in accordance with USA Hockey rules and regulations. Age groups are Mite (6-8), Squirt (8-10), Pee Wee (11-12), Bantam (12-14), and Midget (15-19). Currently, there are two affiliates ice rinks (Iceland in Virginia Beach, VA and Iceplex in Yorktown, VA) that field two teams each. A third ice rink in the Hampton Roads area, Chilled Ponds in Cheasapeake, VA, discontinued membership. The Richmond Royals terminated affiliation with the EVHL due to travel concerns. The hockey schedule starts in October and concludes in March with the playoffs and League Championship in each of the age groups. Playoffs are 'Buffalo Points' system, where each period won is given a point, with the exception of the Championship game.
Mission
The objectives of the Eastern Virginia Hockey League are to provide an opportunity for young men and women to participate in amateur ice hockey in an organized and competitive environment, to foster player development both physically and academically, and to provide opportunities for personal growth and enrichment.
