Eastern Condiments (P) Ltd. is an India based Spices and Spice BLEND manufacturer, distributor and exporter owned by Eastern Group. Founded in 1983 by M. E. Meeran (1941- 2011), it is headquartered at Kochi, India. It’s leadership team include Managing Director, Firoz Meeran and Chairman, Navas Meeran. Navas is also the elected chairman of Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), southern region (2014–15). More popular for its range of Masala powders the company has branded and established itself as ‘Eastern’. Eastern is a 750 crores group of associates which includes Eastern Mattresses(Sunindra), Eastern Treads Limited, Eastern Clothing Company(King Richard), Eastern Aqua Minerals, Eastea Chai P Ltd and Eastern Newton Public School. Eastern Condiments has been recognised and awarded by Spice Board of India as the ‘Top Most Exporter for Spice Products in Consumer Packs’ and ‘Top Most exporters for Spice Mixes including Curry Powders’. Company’s quality certifications and accreditation include HACCP, BRC and ISO 22000. In the spice sector Eastern is the first company to adopt a fully automated and NABL accredited IC Microbiology-testing Laboratory.
History
M.E. Meeran founded Eastern Trading Company in Adimali, Idukki District, Kerala in the year 1968 and by 1976 entered into distribution business as supplier of detergents, batteries, bathing bars, coffee powder and other items. Eastern Coffee, the first FMCG venture in 1983 proved to be an unsuccessful trade for him. However, his next move of entering into the then niche and unorganised Curry Powder Masala market showed favourable results by commanding a major stake in Kerala market. Later, seeing the need to expand Meeran set the company’s manufacturing facility at Theni, Tamil Nadu (1995) followed by Guntur, Andhra Pradesh and Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh. In 2011 he passed the legacy to his son Navas Meeran.
Over the years the company has not just expanded in other Indian states such as Uttar Pradesh, Karnnataka, Adhra Pradesh and Maharashtra but also caters to the export market of West Asia, Europe, the UK, the US, Canada, Singapore and Australia.
Products
The company has over 180 products available in different packages broadly divided into the following categories:
Spices: Constitute a range of single grounded spices. These include Chilly (powdered and crushed), Turmeric, Cumin, Coriander and more.
Masala Blends: Constitute of wide range of combinations of spices, herbs and other ingredients (often garlic, ginger and onions) for popular Indian Recipes which come handy to home cooks for convenient and speedy cooking thus also preserving the traditional taste of the recipe. The popular among these being Garam masala, Sambar Masala, Chicken Curry Masala, Pav Bhaji Masala, Fish curry, Meat Masala and many more.
Whole Seeds: Constitute a range of ungrounded, whole seeded spices i.e. Cloves, Cumin, Fennel, Mustard, Fenugreek, pepper, Cardamom, etc.
Pickles: A range of Vegetarian and Non-vegetarian, spicy and tangy pickles to go with any of meal/food. Mango, Lime, Garlic, Fish, Prawn are few of the many pickles in the product range.
Breakfast: These include ready to cook popular South Indian breakfast food such as Dosa, Idli, Pathiri, Idiyappam etc. as well as Chutney powders such as Coconut Chutney, Prawn Chutney and Breakfast Chutney powder.
Celebrations and Others: These include ready to cook payasam, Papad, ginger garlic paste and many other varied products.
Corporate and Social responsibility
Eastern Newton School, Adimali, Kerala: A school run by the group to provide basic education to local public of Adimali.
Dial for Ambulance 1298: The initiative started in association with Ambulance For All, Mumbai and London Ambulance Service wherein citizens of Kochi can avail the ambulance service by dialing 1298.
