Dungeon Cleaners

Dungeon Cleaners () is a sci-fi computer RPG created by Russian gaming company 1C and released in 2006. The action is set in a fictional universe, created by a famous Russian celebrity Dmitri "Goblin" Puchkov, known for his unusual and funny translations of popular movies. Gameplay is considered to be a cross-breed of Fallout and Neverwinter NiGHTS.

The game leads your squad into a ravaged penitentiary planet in a search and destroy mission for a constructing spacecraft, on which the prisoners are planning to escape. The player is to control a squad of 4 Imperial Marines, Upir (Vamp) Recon Team, through the various environments of the planet (from desert-like areas, filled with giant fire-breathing lizards and deadly flying cockroaches, to jungle forest with interesting alien plants and vicious apes), battling convicted murderers, mutant rats, bureaucracy of high command and many harmless cute fluffy animals. The player will fight using weapons such as: shivs, wooden boards, katanas, amateur-made fire-arms, WW1/WW2-style machineguns, hunting and street-combat shotguns, assault and sniper rifles, grenade launchers, Imperial railguns and laser/blaster weapons, incendiary and gas grenades and the soldiers' own fists and legs. Battles are set in real-time with a "Smart Pause" feature. Armours can be upgraded for better protection and durability. Armours can range from: rat skin tailored shirts, thick leather vests, cuirasses, bulletproof vests with armour plates, Imperial body armour and the legendary Polniy Pe (Russian synonim for Total F) armour.

The game is made in a humorous offensive way accompanied by extensive swearing (usually covered with "Censored" marks in texts and BEEP sound during conversations). Offenses vary from racial themes to criticism of the modern governments, wars and ideologies. The language in game is mostly Russian, even though some cutscenes feature other languages, it is usually a random mix of common or all-known words or gibberish, used to achieve humorous atmosphere.

The game has gathered a cult following even before its release, partly due to Puckov's involvement in the creation of the game. Overall the game has got great reviews from both the audiences and gaming magazines, the only criticism being in-game bugs and glitches (some resulting in almost invulnerable enemies, uncompletable quests, uncollectable items, constant weapon misfires and enemies, despite all odds, scoring a critical hit on the player) most of which are fixed with the latest patch (1.03)

Story

The player's initial playable character is named Boar. His stats and facial features can be modified at the start of the game. To INFILTRATE the prison, Boar is sent in as a convict with a group of real prisoners in a drop-pod. The pod malfunctions and crash-lands in a mountainous area. Only three convicts, including Boar, survive The crash. A small tribe of African prisoners finds the pod and capture the other two convicts. Boar is unconscious and presumed dead. When he comes to, the tribesmen attack him, but he manages to kill them all. During the fight, the two captured convicts escape but are immediately captured by a man in black clothing holding a shotgun. Boar catches up to the man, but gets outnumbered and captured with the other two. They are taken to an industrial settlement where prisoner-guards watch over prisoner-workers, as the latter mine ore and turn it into guns and bullets. Boar is initially assigned to heavy manual labor but is then taken to see the settlement's security chief Goover (or Hoover). Goover sees potential in Boar and, after a small task, assigns Boar to internal security. After excelling at several more assigned tasks, Boar is reassigned to external security to ensure that no one escapes or sneaks in. Seeing his chance, he manages to steal the settlement's train with the help of a technician. The train runs out of fuel in the desert, and the technician is killed by a wild beast. Boar is forced to make it to the Northern City on foot, avoiding the deadly desert creatures. There, he must get rid of his clothing and rifle and infiltrate the city, as all escaped workers are sent back to the settlement. All city inhabitants must have a special tattoo indicating they live there. Boar locates another deep-cover operative in the city and makes contact. The man tells Boar that he must follow his orders to the letter. His first assignment is to go into the jungle and come back with 21 jerboa skins. He tells Boar that he must get the tattoo quickly at the tattoo parlor "Hepatitis". After that, Boar's boss tells him to take two of his guys and go to the Asian district to kill a cook. Fighting through a horde of Asians allows Boar to collect more weapons, including the sai and a Chinese sword, both of which can be upgraded by a master in the district. Boar's boss eventually points him to the city's slave market, where another member of the squad is being sold - Sullen. Sullen is an expert at hiding and using Imperial weaponry. Once Boar frees Sullen, they can travel outside the city using the planetary map.
