Dudley Watson

Dudley Watson is a formal union official of the Australia Workers Union for 18 years.

He was the Union official for the South Western District. He has been a member of the AWU since 1965. He retired in November 2005.

He has been accused of asking employers to make it a condition of employment that employees join the union.

He worked for many years in the wool industry. He said that "I estimate that 30 teams of shearers, shearing 5000 sheep for 40 weeks a year will shear the sheep in Queensland". Dudley has complained on many occasions AbOUT the decline of the wool industry in Australia and about the free trade agreements calling them a "sell out".The state of the accommodation provided to the shearers over the past 30 years have declined. Dudley said that "shearers have only themselves to blame for not reporting the situationshearers have only themselves to blame for not reporting the situation".He also said that it is "scandalous" to invest money in training programms for shearers when there is little work for them to do. He has also work hard to improve the health and safety of workers in work places. He has doubted that sedation of rams could stop shearers from hearting their back.

He has protested against companies like Parmalat Australia trying to "mothballed" factories in Warwick. In 2004 Paramalat Australia cut its stuff down to just 14. Dudley , the union and the workers protested. 42 of the workers opted for redundancy. The factory closed down soon after.

Dudley Watson is a member of the Australia Labor Party.
