Dual Core (musician)
dual Core are a Nerdcore hip hop group consisting of two performers, these are Int eighty (int80) who is a programmer from Cincinnati, Ohio and c64 who is a graphic designer from Manchester, England. They first met on an underground hip hop website which triggered their formation as a duo.
Touring
On August 4, 2007, they became the first nerdcore group to play at Defcon.
On August 9, 2007, Dual Core became the first nerdcore group to play the big stage at the CCC Camp.
Thanks to Notacon, Dual Core became the first nerdcore group to play the Ohio Linux Fest after-party, which was sponsored by Google and Notacon. Since then, Dual Core has performed at many cons across the US including ToorCon (San Diego), ShmooCon (Washington DC), and Nerdapalooza (Orlando).
Dual Core plays mostly small venues, many of which are hacker conventions. Their shows are often small sets of 5-10 songs, some of which are remixes of songs from the album using different beats. Each set often contains a freestyle portion where int80 has members of the audience bring objects from their pockets forward to be incorporated into the freestyle. Live shows sometimes contain pranks, such as rickrolls.
Lost Reality
Lost Reality was released at Notacon 5 in Cleveland on April 4, 2008.
This album contains one of their most notable songs "My Girlfriend is...", which is track 5.
History
In the spring of 2007, Dual Core released their first album entitled Zero One. Zero One featured the single Hostage Down, a fun song AbOUT the game Counter-Strike. The up-tempo INSTRUMENTS and rhythm, combined with amusing lyrics and catchy chorus, made the song an immediate hit. Zero One received play on numerous podcasts and radio stations.
In the summer of 2007, int eighty and c64 met in-person for the first time ever. That’s correct; they completed the Zero One album without ever having met personally. While working together in the basement of int eighty’s house, the two finalized a second album called Super Powers. The new album featured all new music from Dual Core, along with appearances from nerdcore “super” artists Beefy, MC Wreckshin, ytcracker, and ZeaLouS1.
Shortly after completing Super Powers, the group had shows lined up at some big events. On August 4, 2007, Dual Core became the first nerdcore group to play the big stage at Defcon — the world’s largest hacker conference. They proceeded to sell out of copies of both albums. “I was completely shocked when I reached down and there were no albums,” says eighty. “Then I realized we were playing at the CCC Camp in Germany in a couple days, and we didn’t have any CDs to sell.” Fortunately the duo were able to duplicate less official discs via the assistance of CCC Camp attendees. On August 9, 2007, Dual Core became the first nerdcore group to play the big stage at the CCC Camp — a hacker conference that occurs once every four years.
It would be pretty difficult to play shows bigger than these, right? Well have you ever heard of Google? Thanks to the folks who run Notacon, Dual Core became the first nerdcore group to play the official after-party for the Ohio Linux Fest, which was sponsored by Google and Notacon. From there, Dual Core has played shows across the US including Toorcon (San Diego), ShmooCon (Washington DC), and Nerdapalooza (Orlando).
The group released its third album, Lost Reality, at a show at Notacon 5 in Cleveland on April 4, 2008. Lost Reality featured a refined sound, which showcased the musical talents of producer c64. The album has been a popular release among nerdcore listeners and shows high potential for the group. Dual Core continues to move forward with fun plans in the future. Stay tuned for more developments, you won’t want to miss a beat.
