Dressage is often seen as the most formal and controlled of the equine sports, following an ancient, standardized training progression. For philosopher and dressage instructor Sherry L. Ackerman, dressage--along with riding in general--is a transformational art. The second, revised EDition of Dressage in the Fourth Dimension, (ISBN 978-1577316237) (Novato, CA: New World Library, 2008), is a new release of an earlier version of Ackerman's book that introduced the idea of considering dressage from this type of philosophical (especially the perennial philosophy), rather than merely physical, perspective. Drawing on such diverse sources as sacred geometry, ancient Western and Eastern philosophies, and esoteric spirituality, Ackerman attempts to heal humanity's alienation from nature through riding. This is a Second Edition, with a Foreword by Linda Kohanov (author, Tao of Equus, Riding Between the Worlds) and illustrations by Jane Pincus (co-author, Our Bodies, Ourselves). Dr. Ackerman is an international dressage clinician and is one of the American equine industry’s foremost proponents of eco-spirituality and nature mysticism.
