Diamond Plate (band)

Diamond Plate is an American thrash metal band from Worth, Illinois.

History

Originally founded by Jim Nicademus and J.R. Johnson in March 2004, Diamond Plate was soon joined by Jon Macak on bass. It took the band AbOUT a year or so to get the chemistry working and the songs tight enough to start gigging. In the summer of 2005, armed with Metallica and Megadeth covers and a few originals they played their first shows. For about a year and a half the band continued playing shows, attempting to write and going through multiple guitarists and vocalists.

In 2006 Diamond Plate auditioned Konrad Kupiec to be their second lead guitarist in an attempt to thicken up the overall sound of the band, but he would eventually end up being the only guitarist for the direction that the band was taking. Jim saw Konrad at a Megadeth show and about a year before he watched a video of him on YouTube. Jim recognized him and immediately got in contact with Konrad to see if he wanted to play in Diamond Plate. In March of 2007 J.R. Johnson was asked to leave the band. Jon Macak became vocalist in addition to his bass duties, and with that Diamond Plate solidified their line-up and signature sound.

In January of 2008, the group delivered its debut EP, Mountains of Madness, five tracks of high-octane, no-nonsense thrash. A few months later, California based Stormspell Records reissued the EP with custom artwork by renowned artist Dimitar Nikolov as part of its ongoing "Thrash Clash" split release series, pairing Diamond Plate with Swedish thrash band Oppression.

Terrorizer Magazine named them the 5th best unsigned band for 2008.

Diamond Plate will be part of Thrasho De Mayo IV at the Knitting Factory in Los Angeles, CA with Exumer, Merciless Death, Fueled by Fire, Bonded by Blood, Vindicator, Mortrum, Armored Assassin, Witchaven, Hexen and Dismantle
