Synopsis
Fok Sung, now a mortal and owner of Waiting Bar, recounts what has happened in the second series and claims that Kuang TienYou and Ma XiaoLing are away in a better place. Yet he knows, somehow, that they will return. He was correct, one night he realized that someone had gone into his current home and evidence pointed it all to Ma XiaoLing. The woman had apparently stolen a motorcycle and cell phone right after she returned to Earth, and when Fok Sung phoned her she explains she has something to do before she could return and see him. Using a clear stone made of mysterious matter, she opens up a portal and goes back in the time of ancient China, the Southern Song Dynasty - to the time of Arrowhead, a man who was the beforelife of Kuang TienYou.
Arrowhead, like Kuang TienYou, was a captain of his forces in war-torn China. His forces were fighting against Unbreakable's (A man similar to Yamamoto) in the siege of JuXian Zhen when Ma Xiao-Ling suddenly appeared (still in her modern clothes and motorcycle). She rescues Arrowhead from a fall and tells him she is to bring him back to year 2004. He doesn't believe her, and tells her he cannot leave his companions or the battlefield. Annoyed, she uses her powers to wipe out the majority of their enemies, [...] Unbreakable while she was at it. As they later found out, it wasn't the end of him.
Unbreakable's sister, Wulei (with the appearance of Mirai), is a sorceress of sorts and is grief-stricken by her brother's supposed death. Using her powers and her connection to a powerful Wolf God, she decides to see if she can break the seal of the legendary YueChi Tree, which is said to bear fruit that would give the eater everlasting life.
Meanwhile, Ma gives a rather detached attempt to adjust to her new companions. They, however, have more trouble with this, and have a tendency to call her 'witch' due to her powers. Arrowhead also felt she dressed inappropriately as he considered her modern clothing too revealing. As a result, it is YinPing that gets along with Ma the most. Introduced as a skilled masked warrior dressed as a male, YinPing is actually female and daughter of General Yue Fei, Arrowhead's superior, and Song's most famous military person. YinPing confesses to Ma, the only other woman in the group, about her feelings to Unbreakable. Ma encourages her to follow her feelings rather than be chained by the war, and applies make-up to the girl to let her indulge in her feminine side, much to Arrowhead's annoyance.
Wulei succeeds in breaking the seal. The tree does look wonderful, but like its legend the appearance was deceiving. The promise of Everlasting Life actually meant turning the eater into a vampire, and when Unbreakable woke, he was a red-eyed, mad vampire. Filled with bloodlust, he began attacking his own comrades, and Wulei was no exception. She managed to retain her humanity, and watched in horror as her brother turned his comrades into black-eyed vampires. That was how Ma, Arrowhead, and their group found her. Wulei realizes her mistake, and pleas for help to reseal the tree. Breaking the seal triggered an ancient Pangu Mecahnism that would destroy every lifeform in the town if the seal was not repaired in a day's time.
Not long after, YinPing's former teacher Zaijie contacted Ma via cellphone using his psychic powers, urging her to reseal the seal of the YueChi Tree placed by the powerful Pangu Tribe. YinPing talks of her mysterious teacher, who always knew more than he should and was responsible for giving YinPing her current weapon, a sacred spear that has enable her to fight in the army. Upon learning it was a YueChi Tree, Ma makes the connection with the tree's creator, YueChi SingMu, the vampiress-like, vicious goddess of Yin; meant to balance humanity's health by spreading disease. Already, Ma reveals she has a grudge against her, and agrees to prevent the Tree from springing. Through a flashback, we see that Kuang TienYou, the last time Ma saw him, was struck down with a sickness that YueChi SingMu was spreading. By leaving him, Ma was not even sure was he alive or dead, and she hated YueChi SingMu for doing this.
For a short while, the remainder of Unbreakable's forces team up with Arrowhead's to stop Unbreakable and his now-turned-vampires companions. An at first grudging alliance between opposing armies turned into mutual respect for each other. Their weapons were treated with silver, enough to handle weak black-eyed vampires. At first the strategy bore success, but the sheer number of vampires ultimately overwhelmed the humans. While Arrowhead, Ma, and the rest of the remaining armies fight Unbreakable's vampires, Wulei sends YinPing into Unbreakable's dreams. As a vampire, his soul is locked and to try finding it would be difficult and time consuming. Wulei explains that YinPing's love was not one-sided, her brother actually feels the same for her. Therefore, if he senses her in his dreams, his soul would come out and contact her. However, the very task was dangerous, and what's more if Unbreakable does reveal himself to YinPing, she must kill him. Out at the battlefield, Arrowhead and Ma realize they cannot fight the large number of wild vampires at once. Already, one by one, their friends were being bitten and turned. Ma records a message on her stolen cellphone, suspended it in time and buried it.
Back in modern Hong Kong, a thief tries to steal from TianYi and ends up having his fortune told. TianYi predicts the thief will die by a black jaguar. The thief does not believes this as there are no jaguars in Hong Kong, but he later dies after being knocked down by a black car (Jaguar model). Unbreakable meets up with TianYi, who realizes he is dealing with a vampire. He mentions to Unbreakable that his sister Wulei is now neither living or dead. In turn, he is told that Ma did not die in ancient China.
Unbreakable goes to the site of the town Ma supposedly died in and digs up Ma's cellphone. There were two message on the phone. One states that whoever find the phone has to take it to Waiting Bar before June 25, 2004, to get a big reward. The other message is for Fok Sung, telling him to find a weapon that could kill off several vampires in one blow. And then he sees a cell phone picture of YinPing. Unbreakable comments this desperate tactic was a bit too risky, even for someone like Ma.
Back in ancient China, YinPing enters Unbreakable's dream and finally finds the man she loves. The two of them could finally talk about their feelings without worrying about the war, but in the end Unbreakable tells YinPing to kill him. She could not do it, and Unbreakable's vampire side once again takes over. YinPing and Unbreakable wake, with the former injured and the latter once more. Unbreakable continued his mindless [...], stopping only when he is presented with his sister's dying form. Wulei dies not long after. Recovering his sanity, Unbreakable frees Ma and Arrowhead and helped resealing the tree.
By the time everything was settled almost everyone was dead. YinPing begs Unbreakable to leave with her, to leave all the fighting and [...] so that they could look for the Eternal State, but he refuses. He insists the war must continue where they left off, and gives her the message that Yue Fei had decided to retreat as ordered by the Emperor. Reinforcements from the Jin empire arrived to aid Unbreakable, unaware of the happenings the previous night. Ma wants to take Arrowhead to 2004, and unsurprisingly, he refused. If anything, the two men revert to what they were in the beginning - generals fighting each other. Ma and YinPing realized they have to get into one more battle before everything can be settled. Unbreakable's forces clashes with Arrowhead and YinPing. This time, Unbreakable unmasked her in battle, just as he wished; but at the same time he delivered the [...] blow. Ma, tired and angry at all the fighting and dying, finally grabs Arrowhead and drags him to 2004.
Upon her return, she finds out FokSung has used up all her credit and money running the bar. While she tries looking for business, FokSung helps Arrowhead adjust to the different way of living. As of the moment, Arrowhead lives in the current world only due to a red string Ma has given him. The string will keep his life for a hundred days, and once the date passes Arrowhead will die - unless he willingly focuses his mental strength to stay, something the nostalgic Arrowhead did not want to do. While changing Arrowhead's 'old-fashion' appearance to an 'in' look, FokSung almost unintentionally makes Arrowhead into a copy of Fong. Like Ma, FokSung asks Arrowhead to turn around so that he did not have to see Arrowhead's face, and weeps. Arrowhead begins wondering what type of mark his next-life had left on the people around him.
Arrowhead has troubles adjusting to his new life. FokSung highlighted for him the changes since his time, including showing him the memorial of the last Song Emperor, a relic from the dynasty long since gone. Aside from getting motion sickness easily (even on an elevator) and having a hard time understanding that the fights in the TV set does not affect him, it turns out Unbreakable was still alive. Because he was a vampire, he has not aged at all, and has lived for almost 800 years after the war. One night Unbreakable sees a vampire trying to run away from the hospital and confronts him. He learned that since the catastrophe in 2001 (A reference to the events in My Date with a Vampire II), many vampires have been left to fend for themselves, resulting in the number of blood pack thefts from hospitals.
The police appear and try to arrest the vampire, but Unbreakable interferes. As a red-eyed vampire, a few blows was enough to send the police back, but strangely he soon met his match in the form of MaoYau, a young woman skilled in both firearms and martial arts. She is also from the police, and appears to know a lot about vampires. MaoYau tells him she'll let him go, but she must apprehend the other vampire before he causes more trouble. Unbreakable leaves and meets Ma. After a discussion, Ma leaves, but not before telling Unbreakable not to let Arrowhead see YinPing's photo in the cell phone.
Sure enough, the next time Unbreakable and Arrowhead saw each other, the two of them only got into a fight. A fight which Unbreakable won with relative ease, without even using his vampiric form. He tells Arrowhead that while he may feel it has just been days, hundreds of years had passed since the war. It was about time Arrowhead learned to let go and stop thinking of war.
Meanwhile, MaoYau is revealed to be head of a Special Defense Unit created especially to deal with the supernatural. The SDU members in there are all skilled in body and mind, but MaoYau knows they have little to no experience with supernatural elements, and that each lacked certain qualities to make them a successful team. Therefore, she seeks out Ma, with the intention of convincing her to help train the members. It was revealed the two of them were best friends and very close, but for reasons unknown, MaoYau left Hong Kong years ago. Now she was back and part of the police force that dealt with the supernatural. Ma was at first reluctant in dealing with a group of amateurs, but the government was willing to pay her high amounts of money for the job; and as FokSung pointed out, she really needed the cash at the moment.
Superintendent Chen gives MaoYau the file on what happened in 2001, and Ma soon meets the team members. MaoYau, mistaking Arrowhead as Kuang TienYou, invites him to join the team and he does so. There, he learns what an exceptional police officer TienYou was, and decides to see if he could live up to the expectations. Ma's training tactics flabbergasts the members as she seems to be humiliating them instead of actually teaching them anything. MaoYau says nothing about this and resentment began to grow among the team members. Only Arrowhead, who was brought up to obey every word the leader says, and Mars, a man who wishes to pursue a relationship with MaoYau, persists in doing as Ma says.
Sure enough, Ma soon takes them to a graveyard and enabled them to see ghosts. The team members were horrified and tried to run. Mars managed to stay only because of his strict ways of protocol, and Arrowhead was not faze because as he later told the team members, he had seen even worst things and had watched them kill his friends (A reference to Unbreakable's [...] frenzy). At least the ghosts could not touch them.
To better train the team, Arrowhead and Mars convinces the team to train in the graveyard. Not only that, to boost their confidence, they soon receive special equipment from TianYi. In exchange, they were not to check his background. TianYi, as it turns out, wishes to retrieve his girlfriend Liuyu, who is now a spirit lingering in a mirror. He seems to have committed the same taboo MaoYau did years ago - trying to resurrect a beloved dead one.
The team trains in the graveyard and even helps with the birth of a ghost-child, with Ma giving them instructions over the phone. When another ghost appeared to try take the child away, Sky, one of the members, disobeyed Ma's orders to leave and instead fights the ghost off. MaoYau, angered at the team's behavior for a while and deciding to make him an example, throws him out of the team. The team would later put matters right, and help the baby ghost reincarnate, as was supposed to happen.
Meanwhile, TianYi meets a woman named YueQiong. When she asks for her fortune, he refuses to tell her. YueQiong talks of how there are three special books in this world named 'Heaven', 'Earth' and 'Human'. Each of the books had its own powers, and it was believed if all three were gathered it would give the owner invincible power. She suspects TianYi has the Heaven book and has been using it to tell fortunes. In exchange for it, she promises to revive Liuyu. TianYi gives no direct answer, but instead talks of how according to records, a catastrophe involving YueChi SingMu will soon occur and destroy the world. Ma's appearance with a man from ancient China changes that history, and as a result the Heaven book is working to change itself.
YueQiong is almost skeptical about the influence those two could have, but TianYi knows exactly how strong an individual can be. He urges the woman not to become enemies with Ma SiuLing or MaoYau. Now interested, YueQiong decides to become the new landlord over Ma's property so that she could see if she can become friends with the exorcist.
Forced out of the SDU, Sky wanders around and meets a girl lost in the streets. She was looking for the Waiting Bar and he takes her there, where she introduces herself as Kuang TianAi and is soon hired to work in the bar. FokSung soon finds something odd about her birth date, which was 2005, a year after current times. Later Sky, admitting his faults, rejoins the team, just in time for their first real 'test'.
Superintendent Chen directs them to a hotel that has suddenly been abandoned, its occupants had suspiciously vanished one night. Chen then gives Mars a secret task that he was not to tell Ma or MaoYau about. Due to a disagreement with Chen, Ma leaves the team, and Chen orders MaoYau to stay put as the team enters the hotel when "they are unprepared to face such a task", to quote Ma. The team enters the hotel and sees two reporters, one of which dies and the other commits [...], both acts being done in front of the team's eyes. The reporter, before dying, foreshadows their fate when he tells them it is time for them to play.
The team's bullet-proof vests soon alert them to the presence of a malicious spirit. They hear the voice of a child telling them she wants to play. Soon, the team finds a tape, and MaoYau orders them to bring it out so that they could watch it first and see what they were dealing with. To the team's horror, for some strange reason, they could not leave the hotel. While MaoYau tries to think of a way out, the others keep her up-to-date with events as they decide to watch the tape inside the hotel. The tape showed how a group of reporters sneaked into the hotel. They knew there was a ghost there, and soon meets it - or her. The ghost had the appearance of a little girl dressed in white named Alice, and she engages them in a game of tag named 'catch ghost'. She touched one of the reporters on the shoulder, and suddenly he appeared to be dissolving, until he touched the shoulder of another reporter. She tells them the person being 'it' was the 'ghost'. He had to tag another person to not become the 'ghost'; but should the person play the ghost exceed the time limit of twenty minutes, he will dissolve into a shadow on the walls and floors and stay with her forever. The reporters, panicked, tried to run, and realize they could not escape the hotel.
The team, who had just witnessed the deaths of the last two reporters, quickly stares at MuCun, who had been the closest to the spirit. WuLong points his gun towards him and MuCun points his too. Mars and Arrowhead stop the two and the other members tell them to calm down, they will surely find a way out. Mars, remembering his secret task, tells everyone to split into different groups to catch Alice. Outside, MaoYau knows that things are getting very dangerous and wants to call Ma back, but Chen rejected the suggestion. Now suspicious of how strangely Chen seems to be dealing with the situation, MaoYau decides to leave Chen alone for a while.
Back in the hotel, Mars finally finds what he was looking for - a music box. He pockets it and happily leaves the room, only to meet MuCun outside. MuCun claims that he is not "it" anymore but Mars is obviously hesitant in believing him. When MuCun sees the music box in Mar's hands he himself becomes suspicious of Mars. The two of them, obviously panicked by the other's actions, lose their cool, and Mars raises his gun and shoots MuCun. He flees just in time as Big R, another team member, arrives and sees MuCun dead. He quickly informs the team that MuCun was not "it", and not long afterwards the team begins suspecting Small R, Big R's younger brother. Small R admits that he is "it", causing Big R to grieve. Despite his cold attitude, Big R really cared for his younger brother, and to know he will soon die while Big R could do nothing really pained him.
Small R tells them that he had met up with WuLong, who willingly admitted he was "it" and warned Small R not to touch him. WuLong began to talk sadly of his life and all his future plans, which were now impossible. He talked of how he had prepared a gift for Small R's soon-to-be child, and Small R, moved, had leaned forward to WuLong. However, as soon as he was close enough, WuLong grabbed him on the shoulder and fled, leaving Small R as "it". Right before the team's eyes, Small R dissolves into black particles and the only mark of his existence was a dark shadow on the wall; just one of the many that had been staining the hotel. Big R grieves, but soon becomes bent on revenge.
Unresponsive to the calls for him, Mars sits alone in a room with the music box in front of him. Arrowhead arrives, and Mars admits that the whole thing was for this music box, it is actually a supernatural weapon of mass destruction. The music box was in reality Alice herself. As a leader of sorts to the team, he has listened to their cries and screams, saw and heard the deaths of two members; and felt responsible. If Arrowhead wanted to kill him, Mars would not resist. Arrowhead, though partially blaming Mars, chose not to. Outside, MaoYau convinced Ma to go into the hotel to save the team. Chen wanted to stop them and the two women employed some decoy tactics before physically kicking him, knocking him out.
The team caught up with WuLong and everyone scolds him for his part in Small R's death. WuLong countered with the fact that he was never treated with respect in the team, so he did not really betrayed a friend. After all, they never thought of him as a friend. At Big R's fiery passionate responses, WuLong starts feeling guilty, he raises his gun and everyone does the same thing. Arrowhead and Mars interferes at last, but Big R, hurt and angry, refused to listen to them, until Mars finally admits to everyone's shock that he was MuCun's killer. It still proved inadequate to quench Big R's vengeful spirit or his fear of Alice when her hand appeared again, for he fires the first shot at WuLong. That was the trigger, and soon the air filled with the sound of bullets.
At last Ma and MaoYau appear, demanding them to stop and an answer to how things turned out this way. WuLong kneels down and dies, but he was not the only victim. With his eyes on MaoYau, Mars slowly sank to the floor as well. A wayward bullet had pierced through the back of his head and killed him. Seeing himself as a failure for being unable to protect his subordinates again, Arrowhead tried to remove the red string but Ma grabs his hand and stops him. Her words however were "TienYou, don't!" Arrowhead sadly reminds her he was not TienYou, he did not even deserve the right to pretend, because whereas TienYou was a brilliant leader he kept leading his team to death. Alice, angered at the interruption of the game, turned her doll into a giant intent on destroying the humans in the hotel. The team plus the two women fought desperately, but all their attempts proved fruitless. Just when they began to despair, Unbreakable arrives on the scene.
Calmly teasing the group for being unable to even deal with a child, he takes the music box and gently called Alice to return home and rest. The spirit does so willingly, and Unbreakable leaves. He takes the box to the park, and sitting there calmly waiting for him is TianYi. He takes the music box and explains that Alice was a weapon that TianYi himself created. During the Second World War, all governments and ruling parties in fighting countries were all conducting experiments to find a weapon of mass destruction, and Alice was one of them. She was meant for Japan, but before she could be properly finished, the USA showed their weapon of mass destruction - the Nuclear Bomb. The bombing killed thousands, and some of the bodies had been completely vaporized, leaving nothing but shadows, including Alice's parents; hence Alice's victims. On the subject of World War Two, TianYi brings up Yamamoto, a Japanese lieutenant who fought in the war, and who gave the order to create Alice. Unbreakable then had a shocking revelation--he "was" Yamamoto. He would die to be reincarnated as Yamamoto.
Solemn but knowing himself well enough, Unbreakable admitted he perhaps might welcome death. He stood up to leave, but when he turned around he saw a woman who was not there just a few seconds ago. The woman was YueQiong, and he approaches her hesitantly. He felt as if he knew this woman, yet he also knew he never met her before. She, too, appeared to not know him, so he left. YueQiong then approached TianYi, who handed her the music box. At Chen's office, Chen was panicking and wondering about the music box. From his dialogue on the phone, it was clear that he was conducting an illegal, very dodgy deal with some Japanese merchants. YueQiong suddenly appears in front of him. She opened the music box, and Alice came out. By the time the remaining team members arrived to confront Chen, he was but a shadow in the ground.
Meanwhile, Unbreakable and Wulei try entertaining themselves and each other by trying out new inventions and doing acts of charity. When the full moon came up, Unbreakable used his van as Wulei's fortune-telling stall. Wulei had a bag of coloured stones which she claimed that if someone managed to draw the white one out, the person is her destined partner. For years no one had been able to do so, because Wulei had actually been removing the white stone every time someone drew. However, that night was different. A 'Mr. X' dropped by the stall and demanded that the two get off his territory, and when he bared his one vampire fang, the two siblings are unfrightened of him; if anything they appeared interested. Wulei then takes her bag of coloured stones and asked him to draw, not knowing that earlier her brother had placed the white stone back inside. When Mr. X drew out the white stone, Wulei decided to pursue a relationship with him, despite Unbreakable's obvious distaste.
Mr. X has no idea that he was dealing with another vampire and an animated corpse. He did not even know the importance of the bracelet Wulei wore - the Eternal Lock itself. The lock that used to be YinPing's before her death 800 years ago. A foul-mouthed vampire with an inferiority complex due to his one fang and inability to survive in sunlight, Mr. X had long lived in the night and the night along. Whenever dawn arrived, he goes to hide at his home or the vampire community centre. When his shift was over at the convenience store, Mr. X began walking home, only to see a figure drop down in front of him. The figure bore a heavy similarity with Kuang TienYou himself...
MaoYau sank into depression after Mars' death. Before the hotel fiasco, they had been about to pursue a relationship. Now with his death, the possibility of it was gone, and she tried to forget by indulging in alcohol. Ma had her own troubles. She sensed that TienYou might be back and became very emotional and snappish. The SDU members were also grieving, and it was obvious the group was falling apart. The team was soon officially disbanded due to casualties. Arrowhead's attempts to help Ma were thrown back in his face, and he realized he had fallen in love with her. Upset at himself and the situation, he wandered about in the streets, where he was lured to Unbreakable's side once more.
Unbreakable takes Arrowhead to his home, and explained that Wulei was still with him. Arrowhead, who was sure Wulei died years ago, asked how she was still alive. Unbreakable told him how after the war, Unbreakable found a letter YinPing wrote before her death. It was touching and sorrowful, but the main point was that she entrusted her Eternal Lock to him as a gift. The Eternal Lock was what had allowed YinPing to become such a skillful warrior, and now, the Eternal Lock will allow Unbreakable some happiness by taking Wulei away from death's grasp. In other words, Wulei's 'life' was actually dependent on the Lock, but now 800 years later the Lock was running out of power.
The Lock, using Wulei's mouth, spoke of how there was an oncoming war between goddess YueChi SingMu and god YunWong FuXi. When the two fight, it will be a catastrophe to life on Earth. Arrowhead now understood why Ma had to bring him to 2004 - he had to stop the battle from happening. The war was not the only subject of concern, for the Eternal State would open once the two of them start to battle. The Lock told the two former generals that they must first try to persuade the two deities not to fight.
TianYi went into a cafe and meets YueQiong there. MaoYau is alone at her home, drinking wine nonstop. It does not help to sedate her as she had hoped. She kept seeing illusions of Mars, and what is worse, the plane ticket she brought to America was a month late. To make things worse still for her, her phone was not working because she apparently did not pay an outstanding bill. Little did she know, everything around her was being manipulated by YueQiong herself. The woman was using her laptop computer to write a story, a story involving Ma and MaoYau. She told TianYi she planned to solve the misunderstanding between the two women. Not far away, Ma discovered that TianAi had a lot of exorcist potential, and takes her out to deal with a ghost. Though mocking of TianAi's inability, she obviously cared for her and told TianAi she did pretty well for a first try in exorcism.
MaoYau phoned the Phone Company and demands an explanation, and ended up letting her emotions rule over her mouth. The man on the other line, Vincent Ma, is a plain but caring man who tried to comfort her, but MaoYau ended up hanging up. She went to the same cafe that TianYi and YueQiong was in, shortly afterwards, in a twist of fate, Vincent went in as well. TianYi and YueQiong knew what had happened earlier, and TianYi suggests to YueQiong that Vincent should go comfort MaoYau again. YueQiong told him she did not like characters like Vincent in her story, but TianYi used his own powers to push Vincent to MaoYau's side. The two of them had a talk and MaoYau decided she wanted Mars alive, be it at the cost of her own life or not.
Finally we get the story of MaoYau and Ma. Mao SiuFong's successor, Ho YingKau, explained that the two girls were the successors to the two most prestigious exorcist families in East, but none have been able to kill the Vampire King Cheung Sun. Therefore, it was decided that for the next successor, it will only be one of them. The chosen one will be given all the powers of the Mao and Ma families, to create the ultimate slayer in hopes of [...] Cheung Sun at last. Ma and MaoYau were very different people. MaoYau was a confident and sassy girl with a boyfriend named Edward, while Ma was quiet and conservative. MaoYau displayed much potential and learned quickly, but Ma SiuLing's accomplishments were due to constant training and hard work. When Ma's grandaunt and mentor passed away from old age, Ma moved in with MaoYau and Ho Ying Kau. Despite their personalities and the competition, the two of them became very close friends, and MaoYau was responsible for boosting Ma's confidence. On the subject of the competition, MaoYau admitted that she preferred marrying Edward instead, while Ma confesses she would rather be a police officer (the occupation that MaoYau soon got herself).
Then came the night where the two of them had to battle - the winner would be chosen to inherit all the powers, the loser would leave for America for ten years. The test was in three rounds, and both girls won a round before Ho called it off for the time being. In a twist of fate, Edward died in a car crash that night. MaoYau was grief stricken, she desperately wanted Edward back. MaoYau then remembered several books Ho showed them; one of them could revive the dead. It was a forbidden spell as Ho's own brother, YionQi, had tried it. As a result, he was banished from the family. MaoYau, who did not care about the consequences, tried the spell and sure enough, Edward came back. As soon as he did so, he tried to kill her, telling her a life exchange was actually needed for him to truly live - everything costs something of equal value. Ma appeared and attacked him, and for years MaoYau thought Ma was the one who destroyed Edward's spirit. In reality, after Ma attacked Edward, he tried to kill her and it is MaoYau who picked up Ma's sword and killed him. When Ho learnt of what Mao Yau did, he ordered Mao Yau to transfer her powers to Ma, and sent MaoYau to America.
FokSung is at school desperately trying to contact MaoYau during Physical Education class. He is told off by his teacher, Mr. Yam, and FokSung loudly accused him of abuse. During the chaos this causes, FokSung escaped to MaoYau's place and tried to comfort her. (FokSung was by now a biological teenager, by was chronologically an old man who had never been able to start romantic relationship.) By now, MaoYau really wanted the Dead Revival Book, and she was willing to hold FokSung hostage to force Ma to give her the book. She did not know this willingness was actually YueQiong's doing, and even TianYi believed YueQiong was going too far. FokSung was forced to make a phone call to Ma and beg her to give MaoYau the book, but Ma refuses, saying that the MaoYau she knew would never try to hold innocent people hostage for her own needs. Mao Yau then release FokSung and went to the beach to meet Ma and TianAi. Reluctantly, Ma gave her the book, and Mars was summoned back to the real world. He shared a touching moment with Mao Yau, before wrapping his fingers around Mao Yau's throat. Mao Yau let him do so willingly, but Mars then pulled back, telling her even if he had lived, knowing that he had to killed Mao Yau with his own hands would have killed him inside. He then returned to the dead and disappeared.
Ma, Mao Yau, and TianAi then went to the cafe Mao Yau was in earlier and joined Ma's landlord, YueQiong for dinner. As they were eating, Mao Yau started to talk about a 'Fool' trying to manipulate her actions. After all, the wine she was drinking earlier never seemed to run out, the persistent hallucinations of Mars were a bit too much, and she was sure her plane ticket should not be so late. Ma responded with how the Fool was underestimating them, and TianAi backed her up by saying they would not be afraid of such a fool. Ma laughed and turned to her landlord, questioning the "Fool's" actions. YueQiong laughed, and in returned asks them why, despite their mockery, their hands were shaking (as is seen with TianYi and Unbreakable). The air thickened with tension, Ma and Mao Yau, dropping their earlier happy attitude, demanded to know who YueQiong really was.
At the same time, Unbreakable and Arrowhead confronted FokSung's PE teacher. Mr. Yam appeared to be a normal man who was about to get married with a normal woman, but the two ex-generals had been following the Eternal Lock's guidance. Mr. Yam was no ordinary human, despite the fact he had sealed his powers away and erased his memories, he was the god YunWong FuXi himself. Unbreakable and Arrowhead forced Mr. Yam to remember who he really was, and though they could not remove the seal for his powers, Mr. Yam remembers his past and started telling them his story, which directly paralleled YueQiong's tips to who she was as she took Ma, Mao Yau and TianAi to a mall. YueQiong bet with the three women that if they could guess who she was before the mall closed, YueQiong would pay the bills for all their shopping that night.
The story started with NuWa, who created the first human to finalize life on Earth. The Pangu responded to her prayers, and gave her a man, YunWong, as the basis of humanity. When NuWa left, YunWong became very lonely without a companion. After days of loneliness, the goddess YueQiong came to him. The two of them discovered feelings together, and the two soon became very attached. They termed this attachment "love", and for hundreds of years this pattern continued. Then came the day a third party joined them: a child. YunWong, who knew he was to be responsible for humanity and life itself, was overjoyed. YueQiong was not. She did not tell YunWong but she knew she was placed on earth to counter YunWong in that she was responsible for death and disease. She knew YunWong loved humanity, and was afraid that if he found out she was responsible for [...], he would hate her. Sure enough, several more years later when YunWong realized that the reason his people were dying was because of YueQiong, he became furious with her. Despite the fact that her very creation was to spread death and disease, he was angry that she never told him. As a result, he left her.
YueQiong, who loved YunWong, was grief-stricken. For several years she isolated herself from the world, coming out only occasionally to create sicknesses humans would die upon. When she could no longer endure this, she decided to try making up with YunWong, and sought him out. To her pain, she saw YunWong with another woman, ShangEr. While she had been in isolation, YunWong had fallen in love with another woman - an ordinary human, a mortal - and said woman loved him as well. YueQiong's pain turned to anger and jealously, but she did not try to attack them. Instead, a few days later, YunWong came to YueQiong, begging her to heal ChangEr from a new disease. YueQiong, angered that ChangEr was important enough to reduce YunWong to begging, told him to just turn her into a vampire. YunWong refused, someone as caring and tender as ChangEr would never be able to live with herself if she became a vampire. YueQiong then gave YunWong a fruit that would give ShangEr 'eternal life', and the grateful YunWong rushes off to give ShangEr the fruit. To both parties' shock and dismay, while the fruit did restore ShangEr's health, it also banished her off the face of earth. ShangEr was forcibly removed to the moon, where she was to endure years of loneliness.
YunWong's feelings, like YueQiong, then turned to anger. The two deities changed to their red-eyed vampiric forms, and fought each other. Being gods, their powers nearly destroyed the Earth, and the Pangu tried to interfere. YunWong was furious at this interruption and even shot down several suns, the children of Heaven. Realizing force was not going to work, Heaven began negotiating terms instead. The negotiations calmed the two deities down, and both of them stopped fighting. Earth was, for the moment, safe, and the two deities faded away and joined the midst of humanity.
By this time, Ma had figured out YueQiong's identity: YueChi SingMu herself. Upon hearing this, Mao Yau asks why the deity tried getting close to them, and learned that despite all those years YueChi SingMu still loved YunWong. Enough that she was willing to work with her enemies, in this case, the exorcists. Ma refused, stating that she would never forgive YueChi SingMu, who was indirectly responsible for Kuang TienYou's sickness. She had spread a disease that was fatal to the Pangu Tribe and vampires in the sacred lands of Pangu, in retaliation for them locking her away for so many years.
Ma's reaction to YueQiong's real identity was nowhere near TianAi's. The girl seemed to have snapped, and tried to physically attack YueQiong. Not only that, TianAi revealed that she was a vampire, and an extremely powerful one. YueQiong's all-knowing laptop appeared to have no information on her, and when Ma tried to stop TianAi's rampage, not even the Divine Dragon, the guardian of the Ma family, was a match for her; TianAi simply knocked the powerful creature away. TianAi was shocked and regretful that she had injured the Dragon in her rage. Ma managed to conclude by TianAi's actions that the girl never tasted blood before, and told her to not fall upon the urge. TianAi did not listen, and instead screamed at Ma for her incapability as a good mother. While Ma reeled back in shock, TianAi bites her, but before she could kill Ma someone interfered and pulls Ma away. Ma caught a glimpse of Kuang TienYou before she passed out. MaoYau took her back to the Waiting Bar, where everyone else was.
The people learned of YueChi SingMu's wish to meet up with YunWong again after so many years, but Mr. Yam told them that he had sealed YunWong's power away and his love for YueChi SingMu had also faded away. Knowing YueChi SingMu's personality, this would not end well, so the people request that Mr. Yam at least met up with her. He agreed to consider it, while Ma started wondering whether Kuang TienYou was alive or not. Once again, Arrowhead's attempts to comfort her was thrown back in his face. Knowing the two of them needed to talk to someone, Mao Yau gave them Vincent Ma's phone number on separate occasions.
Vincent Ma XiaoFu recently became very busy in helping others with their personal issues. After the incident with Mao Yau, she had given his phone number to a few people, and they in turn had given it to others. He became a consultant of sorts, and his latest client was Unbreakable. Unbreakable and Wulei got into an argument about Mr. X, since Wulei wanted to start a relationship with him while Unbreakable viewed him in contempt. After talking with Vincent, Unbreakable realized he must let go of his sister, and allowed her to work the night shift with Mr. X.
With Ma and Arrowhead, Vincent does a three way phone call with them, and managed to get them back on speaking terms. While he was happy he could help people, he himself felt very depressed with his life, which was boring and lonely. The only person he had was a fortune teller named Ma DaLong, who frequently told him he must not pursue a relationship. So he constantly indulged in daydreams, where he is a superhero and protector of Earth who becomes romantically attached to a princess from the Galaxy 17317319864 (parody of Japanese action hero Masked Rider). By sheer consequence, this Princess of his dreams bore a striking resemblance to ShangEr herself.
Little did he know, his life was not simple. The reason why DaLong kept telling him not to get too close to women was because of a wayward ghost of bad luck, who had attached himself to Vincent's body. DaLong had been sneaking into Vincent's room every night, making sure that the ghost remained inactive. He had done so all of Vincent's life. As long as Vincent stayed away from women, the ghost would not be active. However, this pattern soon fell apart, when one night, Vincent brought a woman to his home.
For some strange reason, TianYi's fortune telling books started acting strangely, before consuming him in a strange light. After that, he turned into a colder, more calculating person. He became obsessed with the idea of opening the Eternal State, or creating one himself. He knew that by himself he could not do it. He needed the power of YueChi SingMu or YunWong. So he decided to create strife between them by bringing ShangEr back from the moon. He projected himself there, and convinces ShangEr to return to Earth and stop YueChi SingMu from hurting YunWong. The only condition was the price she has to pay for going down to Earth. When she agreed to the deal, TianYi sent her down to Earth, where she promptly dropped onto Vincent. TianYi however, never told her what the price was, or what his name was.
ShangEr was constantly hungry, and consumed large amounts of food, even going as far as eating the tissue from a taxi cab. Vincent, who recognized her as the princess from his dreams, became very caring and tried to protect her, despite DaLong's warnings. Soon, the ghost of bad luck activates. Vincent was fired from his job, is a suspect for [...], and his daydreams soon became confused with reality. ShangEr met up with SingMu, and mocked SingMu's stories. SingMu, furious at ShangEr's sudden reappearance, finally called Unbreakable to her. With Unbreakable now aware of her identity, she ordered him to kill ShangEr. Unbreakable talks of how he knew that as he was an eater of the YueChi tree, YueChi SingMu was his Master, and her orders for him were like that of his superiors in Ancient China. However, times have changed, people now talk of human rights and he was no different. He refused to obey SingMu's every command, she would have to kill him before he does. Meanwhile, ShangEr met up with YunWong. She told him that her feelings for him had faded, and he should go back to his fiance LinLin, but it would not change the fact that she would protect him from YueChi SingMu.
After biting Ma, TianAi had disappeared. Ma gathered Arrowhead, Mao Yau and the SDU members together and tells to find TianAi before she starts to drink blood. Once TianAi drinks blood, she will never be able to stop, so they must find her. They promise FokSung that they will try not to hurt her, but if needed, they will kill TianAi.
Just as things are becoming unbearable for Vincent, ShangEr learned of the 'price' she had to pay: she was a vampire. When some police officers tried to arrest Vincent, she bit them and drank their blood. Finally, her hunger was satisfied, and she realized what she had become. She grieved heavily for this, but it seemed as if the more blood she drinks, the more powerful she became. Not only that, but ShangEr was also a carrier of a new disease that was spread through eye contact. TianAi, who was wandering the streets, came upon some of ShangEr's victims and considered drinking their blood. That was how Ma and the others found her, and thinking she drank the blood, they tried to catch her. Sky secretly helps TianAi escape, but TianAi accidentally hurt him so she escorts him to the hospital instead.
Ma's exorcism power was failing her. Ma Family Blood reacts unfavourably to Vampire Venom, which TianAi had unwittingly poisoned Ma with. Now, she could no longer use the Divine Dragon, the core of her powers, because the Dragon was now being used to contain the poison. To make things worst, all the evil spirits that those of Ma blood had slay was gathering together to finish her off. The Divine Dragon, after all, had warded them off for generations, but in its absence they were moving. They formed the shape of a black dragon and came to attack her, but Arrowhead defended Ma. A valiant attempt, but worthless, for it was clear without the Divine Dragon, they were no match for the evil spirits. Ultimately, the Divine Dragon sacrificed himself to disperse the hateful spirits, leaving Ma allow to combat the venom.
Mr. X's life just got interesting. He was starting to get along with Wulei, and he had met the 'Vampire God', aka Kuang TienYou himself. After 2001, Kuang TienYou had become famous among the vampires. During his time with them he had always been 'asleep', but recently he had started going outdoors. When Kuang TienYou sensed that Ma was in trouble, he recalled what CheungSun had told him before - the one who could help Ma was DayJongWong, literally 'King of Hell'. In front of Mr. X and his friends, Kuang TienYou breaks open the Gates of Hell. To his surprise, the current DayJongWong is Ho YingKau himself. However, Ho clarifies that he was only a secretary while the king was reincarnated as a person, and will be so until the king's return.
Too many things were happening at once. Unbreakable met up with YunWong and asked that he meets SingMu. The poison began to spread in Ma's body without the Divine Dragon holding it off. ShangEr told DaLong and that she news he was Vincent's father. Her disease was also spreading, as TianAi soon learned. She escorted Sky to the hospital and saw people dressed in black uniforms, they were Gods of Death; people responsible for escorting and registering dead souls. One of them was Nick, one of Arrowhead's subordinates from the war 800 years ago. Apparently there was a new disease spreading rapidly and even affecting hell, but the Death Gods have no idea how to stop this or even how it spreads. It devoided emotions from both the living and the dead. Ho, with help from several monks, arrived at Ma's place and realized the poison was activating in her. As a result, they put her in a deep sleep, and the monks all go into a trance in an attempt to contain the poison. It was a deed that was doomed to failure.
The meeting between YunWong and YueChi SingMu, though peaceful, ended in failure. YunWong made it clear he no longer had any feelings for YueChi SingMu for he loved another. YueChi SingMu first accepted this calmly, and let him leave. As a result, everyone was lured into a false sense of security as they believed that there would not be a war between the two deities. During their partying, Unbreakable felt YueChi SingMu's jealousy and anger rise, but he was too late in alerting the others. YueChi SingMu located YunWong's fiancee, and used her powers to seriously traumatize and injure her. SingMu successfully coerced her to claim she "did not love YunWong", as the woman had no idea what YueChi SingMu was talking about. As soon as those words were spoken, YunWong regains all his powers, for his fiancee had been his seal for his powers all along. Furious, YunWong rescued her and took her to the hospital, the same one TianAi and Sky was in, but not before threatening YueChi SingMu to stay away. TianYi then appears, and comments that everything was going to plan.
YueChi SingMu retreats to her home, despite her cruel behavior outside, she started to cry once she was in her sanctuary. YunWong's harsh words had indeed hurt her. Unbreakable, who had also returned home, was affected as well. Because he had eaten the fruit of her tree, Unbreakable and SingMu were very closely linked, and as SingMu wept, Unbreakable started to cry as well. SingMu clenched a pillow, Unbreakable did the same, SingMu tried to distract herself, Unbreakable tried to clean, SingMu threw something out, Unbreakable threw a vase across the room. Wulei walked into her brother doing so and was shocked, as she knew that vase was her brother's favourite. Seeing her brother's red eyes, she grew even more worried and tried asking what was wrong. Unbreakable took one look at her and asked why she wasn't working her night shift with Mr. X. Wulei answered that Mr. X was showing no interest in her and Wulei was finally starting to give up.
At this, Unbreakable grew even more emotional. He grabbed Wulei and dragged her to where Mr. X stayed with his friends. In front of the whole room, Unbreakable started yelling at Mr. X, telling him that Wulei was a very kind girl who sacrificed her social life just to keep her brother happy. She was very beautiful so many had tried to start a relationship with her. Yet because Wulei didn't want her brother to feel lonely, she rejected them all, sacrificing all her chances of happiness. Unbreakable then continued by revealing how, in the course of their lives, Unbreakable made Wulei feel awkward and sad, but she persisted in staying with her brother. Unbreakable's passionate words and tearful eyes shocked everyone, including himself, so after his words he runs out again, Wulei at his heels. Everyone in the building stares at Mr. X, who honestly says he did not understand what just happened.
Wulei catches up with her brother and says she has never seen him this emotional since 800 years ago. Unbreakable soon explains he himself wasn't emotional, it was SingMu. Because of their bond, he was literally her puppet and her strings were affecting him. With Wulei's help, he forces himself to calm down, and the two return home. There, they see YueChi SingMu sitting there, waiting for them. It seemed as if because they are so closely linked, when Unbreakable forced himself to calm down, SingMu was calmed as well. After trading a few remarks, SingMu leaves, but indirectly thanks Unbreakable for calming her down.
Aside from SingMu's personal problems with love, she soon found herself with more troubles. Recently she noticed a strange disease growing rapidly among the humans, and it was passed along via eye contact. ShangEr, as the source, becomes aware of it as well, but though she regrets it now finds she cannot stop herself from drinking blood nor halt the disease. Vincent, meanwhile, grows more unluckier by the second. He begins to hallucinate and confuses dreams with reality. Not even his father or ShangEr could help him now, but despite everything Vincent's protectiveness over ShangEr hasn't changed. It didn't take long for ShangEr herself to realize she was`falling in love with him, but because she knew her presence will only cause him more bad luck, she left, much to Vincent's shock and dismay.
Vincent frantically searches for ShangEr, and finally finds her. ShangEr tries to tell him to forget her, but he refuses. In the end, moved by his persistence, she leads him to a dance in the skies. The moment is ruined when Shanger talks of revenge, and she shows Vincent the [...] whose crimes are now being blamed on Vincent. Meeting the man who had ruined his life, Vincent viciously lashes out, but then stops himself. He tells ShangEr that if he did anything to the man for vengeance, it will go against the virtue of forgiveness, which he had been trying to tell ShangEr. Once again, she is moved, but the [...] suddenly tries attacking Vincent. Enraged, ShangEr transforms to a vampire right in front of Vincent's eyes, and kills the [...]. At a distance, YunWong sees this and is horrified to see what the gentle ShangEr has now become. Vincent, too, goes in shock as he remembers all his dreams and his father's warnings about ShangEr being a source of evil.
Yet despite this sudden knowledge, he decides to protect ShangEr and take her away. However, YunWong phones Vincent and talks of how he saw a friend do something terrible. Vincent once again takes his role of advisor to other people's problems, but is too distracted by ShangEr's plight. Finally, YunWong appears in front of them holding the cell, and it is obvious he is there to deal with ShangEr. Vincent, once again confusing dreams with reality, begins attacking YunWong in 'super' mode, unaware that his attacks were doing nothing to YunWong. The god easily dismisses Vincent, and ShangEr promises to turn herself over after she takes Vincent to the hospital. His problems were caused by her, and she intends to fix them first. YunWong reluntantly agrees.
The gods of Death, meanwhile, are alarmed at the number of people infected with the new strange disease. Because they were unable to find a cure, they knew what had to be done - stop it from spreading anymore, contain it in its original source, and destroy it. Soon, anyone who has had contact with infected people were rounded up and dragged to the hospital where the disease was`first discovered, including Mr. X and several of his friends. At the same time, the people who were in the hospital was to be locked in, including Sky and YunWong's human fiance. As if fate was laughing at them, ShangEr took Vincent to that same hospital, not realizing until too late that it was to be burned and destroyed.
The story is heard by Unbreakable and Wulei, and the latter is horrified. She wishes to save Mr.X, and Unbreakable reluntantly lets her go. Sky's female friend also sneaks into the hospital, and manages to indirectly ask him whether they could take their friendship further. Sky gently lets her down, as he has already fallen in love with TianAi. Wulei has better luck, as upon releasing Mr.X from his restraints he asks her whether her brother's words were true, and when she admits it he blames himself for treating her badly and promises that if they got out of this alive, he would pursue a relationship with her. Wulei says nothing, knowing that the lock keeping her 'alive' was running out of power. The four of them begin to sneak out of the hospital, their obstacles the magical seals and patroling Death Gods.
YunWong is upset that his fiancee will die, but SingMu offers him a chance. She had been staying at Unbreakable's place and had found a cure for the disease - love. The apathy and emotionless symptoms of ShangEr's new disease could be countered by this positive feeling. Ho tells them another option - if they could find the King of Hell, he would be able to cleanse the whole building and save everyone from the disease. YunWong and YueChi SingMu decides to take on the first option, and through three chances tried to draw the love from a cup containing Humanity's compassion. They succeed on the third try, and even manage to awake the King of Hell - Vincent Ma. Using his powers, the King of Hell cleanses the whole building, eraditing the disease and returning everyone to normal health status.
Though it should have been the end of it, it wasn't. During her time with Unbreakable, YueChi SingMu had started some feelings for him, and he in turn returned it. However YueChi SingMu's love for YunWong was much stronger, and Unbreakable knew there was no chance between them. Wulei too, shut herself from Mr.X despite his pleading, she told her brother that if the two of them did start a relationship it will be short-lived for the lock's power was dying, and she herself was afraid that if they got too attached to each other Mr.X would die for her - as she had nearly done. At the same time, YunWong and SingMu finally discussed the new disease ShangEr was spreading. She told them that a mysterious man had appeared to her at the moon, he had convinced that SingMu was hurting YunWong and she must stop it. To bring her back to earth she promised to 'help' him, and it wasn't till it was too late did she realize that he had turned her into a abnormal vampire that did not even belong to the six realms.
The deities knew that the only way to revert ShangEr back to normal was by returning her to the moon, the longer she stayed the more trouble she could only bring. Vincent, not as the King of Hell but as himself, saw her off as she was released back to the moon. Once she left, the characters focused on finding the mysterious man who had turned ShangEr into the abnormal vampire, for they knew that only someone really powerful could set off a new breed.
Indeed the mysterious man, TianYi, was powerful and nothing but trouble. With ShangEr gone, he then went to Ma's home. He disabled the chanting monks and woke Ma, whose eyes glowed purple. The first Ma-Vampire hybrid made Ma more confident, but willing to hurt others as well.
(Skipping to the end)
Near the end of the story, TianAi is revealed to be the child of Ma and Fong. Like how Ma travelled to Ancient China, TianAi travelled to the 'past' when her then dead mother was alive. As the child of vampires, TianAi is known as a 'Devil star' from the second My Date With a Vampire series, but because she is the offspring of a red-eyed vampire and a new breed of vampire with Ma blood TianAi herself is an unnaturally strong abnormal vampire. Her purple eyes - a colour never seen before - is said to be not only a symbol of a devil star, but the key to the Eternal State, a Utopia.
