Derek Bailey (singer)

Derek Bailey (b. December 6 1980) is an American R&B singer who first attained commercial success in 2006.

Born as Derek Anthony Bailey in East Chicago, Indiana, Bailey is the son of divorced parents and has one sister named Kathy. He began singing at the age of five taking part in his Uncle's Band rehearsals. Derek later distinguished himself in the R&B scene by penning many politically charged songs, which struck a chord in the hearts of inner city youth.

The media soon drew comparisons between Bailey and Marvin Gaye who had also written a number of political songs in the 1960s. But also due to his ability to sing sultry love songs like, So Long, which became a radio and internet favorite.

Derek Bailey's success was boosted in late 2006, when "So Long," from his independent release the Escape hit the internet. The following year, "the Escape," Derek's power house track produced by Rocwilder became an underground favorite.

Derek Bailey's fans are patiently waiting for his debut album, D.C. Burning, which is set to drop in 2007. The record is said to feature production by Derek Bailey, Urban Tactics, Rocwilder, Dr. Dre, Mike II, D.Playa with guest vocals by Flybaby and Canibus. 1
