David Phiri (Born February 26 1981), Better known as DeePee ( Sometimes as Afrosoul)is a Zambian rapper, singer, producer and instrumentalist. He is a member of the Zambian hip hop group called Abena

Music career

Early Life

David was born in Kabwe, the son of Sara Chundama, single mother who was a secretary at Zambia Consolidated Copper Mines Kabwe Division, and Samson Mubangalala a former athlete with the Zambia Athletics Amateur Association. In Kabwe David's family, consisting of he's mother and elder brother, lived in a town called Chowa but they later reallocated to luangwa when his mother was married to Goliath Mashawila Phiri. David would later on adopt "Phiri" as he's Surname. In the 90's David was introduced to R&B and Hip Hop Music by his cousin Ngozi Musungwa, by Artist like Arrested Development, A Tribe Called Quest, Heavy D and many others. As he recited lyrics from these songs, he's passion to become a rapper also grow.

Abena: 2006

It was not until 2006, after pursuing an accountancy course and graduating from The National Institute of Public Administration College, did he revisit his dream of becoming a rapper. This was possible when he acquired a Acer Travelmate laptop on which he installed FL Studio. One evening whilst hanging out with a cousin, he was introduced to Emtee. The two would meet later at a bus station in Kitwe and start up a conversation which lead to the formation of the group Abena. The group is yet to release their debut Album
