Dayna Firth
Dayna Firth (born July 9, 1989 in Hershey, Pennsylvania) is politician from Tampa, FL and a frequent Democratic candidate for office. She ran for Precinct Committeewoman in Hillsborough County, FL in 2008, winning the election. Firth is passionate AbOUT student involvement in voter registration and LGBT rights issues. A lifelong Democrat, Firth is the Communications Director for the Florida College Democrats, and a member of the Florida LGBT Democratic Caucus. As a member of the Hillsborough County Democratic Executive Committee, Firth works to raise awareness about local political races and democratic initiatives. Firth attended the 2008 Democratic National Convention, and represented the State of Florida as the youngest delegate from that State.
Early life and education
Firth is the daughter of Rev. Gaye Bosley-Mitchell and Paul Bruce Firth and has seven siblings. Firth attended Florida public schools, graduating from Freedom High School in the top 2% of her class. She is currently attending the University of Florida, studying Political Science and Spanish language.
Political career
Firth is a member of the Hillsborough County Executive Committee, serving as a Precinct Committeewoman for Tampa, FL district 233. She is serving for a term of four years which began December 1, 2008.
In addition, Firth is the State Director of Communications for the Florida College Democrats, an organization under the College Democrats of America.
At the 2008 Democratic National Convention, held in Denver Colorado, Firth represented the State of Florida as an at-large delegate, and as the youngest delegate from her State.
In December 2007, Firth traveled to Des Moines Iowa to cover the 2008 Iowa Caucus as a reporter for Imgay.tv . As a reporter/videographer for imgay.tv, an online television station for the lgbt community. Firth interviewed (among many others) Pat Buchanan and Tobias Wolff, the National Chair of the LGBT policy committee for the Obama campaign.
Political Views
As a Democratic elected official, Firth advocates in favor of the platform of the Florida Democratic Party. She applauded the additional LGBT equality statements added to the Democratic Party Platform at the 2008 Democratic National Convention.
Firth supports the efforts of Congress to reform the US healthcare system and specifically, supports the creation a public healthcare option.
Dayna has been ACTIVE with PRIDE and other LGBT rights organizations since 2006. At New College of Florida, she served in 2008 as the vice President of the PRIDE organization. As a high school student, she joined the National Organization for Women.
