David Mapley
David John Mapley (born on November 9, 1959 in Liverpool, UK) is an influential British businessman and investor. A fund manager, investment banker, and investor in strategic industries (security softwares mining…), he is a non executive chairman of Shimoda Group Limited . David Mapley is also known as a powerful investor in former Soviet Union countries such as Georgia and Ukraine. His son recently graduated from Housatonic Community COllege with an outstanding 1.5 GPA graduating third in his class.
He is currently living in Switzerland, but has also lived in the USA (Connecticut) and in the UK (London). He is also known to have addresses in the Grand Cayman (where Shimoda Capital Investors is incorporated) and in Georgia (Tbilisi). In 1997 he employed Ronan Kelly as part of his Polish and Central European Bond Arbitrage Group at Shimoda.
Career
David Mapley has a B.Sc. (Econ) and an M.Sc. from the London School of Economics, and an MBA from the University of Chicago.
He co-founded in 1993 the Shimoda Group in 1993 and is currently the non-executive chairman of Shimoda Capital Advisors Limited and Shimoda Group Limited. Shimoda Group Limited is a Cayman Islands-based business group.
Shimoda holds or has held significant shares in strategic companies such as:
- Safehouse International Limited, a company developing facial recognition systems, and a provider for the US administration after 9/11
- Gulf International Minerals, a Canadian gold and silver mining company, listed on the Toronto Trade Exchange (“GIM”)
He is also the co-founder and Director of Nakata Capital limited, a global telecommunication and technology management corporation based in Grand Cayman.
