Darryn August

Darryn August is a South African known as The Train hero for the incident that left him disabled.
August grew up in Athlone on the Cape Flats where he became involved in community work.
On 25 April 2016 he supposedly attempted to intervene in a robbery taking place on a train and was flung from the train, however he might have just jumped and hurt himself. He was found several hours laters by maintenance workers. It later emerged that one of the commuters in Augusts' carriage, targeted by a large group of robbers, had been a heavily pregnant woman. August was reported to have been defending the pregnant woman when he came under attack. He was hit with a crowbar, stabbed with a knife, then thrown from the moving train, hitting a tree that snapped his spine.
August was hailed as a hero and a fund set up with the goal of raising R50,000 for his treatment. The target was increased after it attracted five times that amount.
None of those who had donated money towards his cause asked for refunds.
