Curanderos (band)
Curanderos is a Mexican American Latin Alternative rock band founded in February of 1997 by The Lomar Brothers (Rick & Mario Lopez Jr.) Previously ACTIVE in the Chicano punk scene of the early 90s under the names Subrosa and Jonestown, Curanderos would take the Los Angeles Latin alternative movement by storm. With the addition of Larrhy Ruiz (lead guitar) and Fabricio Argueta (drums), Curanderos released their first self-titled EP (the black and red album) in the summer of 1998 at the now defunct Bar Deluxe in Hollywood, California. The EP would spawn three major dance club hits including Dolores, Sangre Fria, and Puede Ser. A year later the band would go on to release their second production Antes Que Duerma at the El Rey Theatre in November of 1999. Though not as popular as their first EP, Antes Que Duerma would go on to bring the critical attention not previously given. In the summer of 2000, Fabricio Argueta would leave the band to take care of various health issues. His replacement, Jerry Zacarias would fill-in from 2001 until his departure in mid-2003. Mr. Zacarias would go on to record and tour for the low-key Radar EP released in April of 2002. Previous to their appearance at the 2003 LAMC in New York City, Jerry Zacarias would leave to pursue a career in the culinary arts. Diego Palacios (of the now defunct Materia Gris) would quickly and permanently fill in. The band would go on to record their fourth production Evolucion Show. The 'TV-Heads' album was officially released in the Fall of 2003 and then re-released on DMP Records in the Spring of 2004. In February of 2005, founding member Rick Lomar would leave the band to pursue other MusicAL and film projects. Rick was replaced on bass by the heavy metal influenced Jesus A. Rauda. The band's most polished fifth production had been slated for release in the Summer of 2007. On October 8th, 2007, Larrhy Ruiz (lead guitar) would leave the band without comment or explanation leaving Mario as the final original member.
