Crucial Response Records

Crucial Response Records is an independent record label specializing in hardcore punk music mainly from Norway, Netherlands and Germany. The label is owned by Peter Hoeren, who founded Crucial Response in 1989 to release the Integrity 7" by Profound. The label operates on the do-it-yourself ethic, producing all of its albums itself and selling them at a low price without finance from major distributors.

Crucial Response Records became quite famous when the label released the Myth of Freedom 7" (1991) and the Ten Inches That Shook The World 10" by ManLiftingBanner (1992). ManLiftingBanner is a communist hardcore punk band. Their radical approach can be found explicitly in their songs Commitment to Communism and New October. Crucial Response Records is also quite known for releasing straight edge hardcore bands which culminated when the label released records by Onward, Sportswear, Mainstrike and Eyeball (known as the The Big Four). The label released four LP compilations Share Common Ground (1992), For The Sake Of Dedication (1997), One Track Mind (2003) and Starting From Zero (2013) to document the hardcore punk scene.
