Cos (band)
Cos was a Belgian progressive rock band led by guitarist and flutist Daniel Schell, ACTIVE in the 70's and 80's singing was often cared for by his wife Pascale Son. The occupation of the group evolved greatly from album to album, regular members were bassist Alain Goutier and keyboardist Charles Loos. Every album the group has its own sound, but the style is consistent with the progressive rock and sometimes the sound of the Canterbury scene and zeuhl hear.
Since 1968, Daniel Schell played in a group Classroom, which has similar music played as Cos would bring later. The first album of Cos, Postaeolian Train Robbery appeared in 1974, the group showed this, the influences of French progressive rock bands Zao and Magma. The album had jazz-like music similar to the music on the first albums of Zao, but was less severe and had more peculiar and humorous sides. The second album, Viva Boma to hear from Canterbury bands like Caravan, Hatfield and the North and Gilgamesh. More influences The vocals of Pascale Son gives albums sometimes feel and accessibility of pop music. The album keyboards, clarinet and sax were provided by Marc Hollander, who shortly afterwards Aksak Maboul would form. The third album, Babel was published in 1978.
A major change came with the album Swiss Chalet. Thanks drummer Philippe Allaert and newcomer, the Rwandan Mutsari bass, the album had an African influence; especially in the first part of the album is a reggae rhythm structure reflected. The other songs follow the Cos tradition. Swiss Chalet was actually a story written by Daniel Schell. It existed in two copies, one was passed from reader to reader since February 1980, but is thereby lost, the other would remain in the possession of the author. The different songs on the album are consistent with events from the story. The album's first "opera" Schell. It is the last album where the vocals Pascale Son cared, then they would begin a solo career in the chanson.
In 1983 Pasiones would appear, a concept album AbOUT the Spanish Civil War. The song was performed by singer Ilona Chale from Spain, where Cos had known. Been some success in Catalonia and the Basque Country The album experienced African influences again, but also influences from new wave and Fripp-like guitar work.
