Comparison of iPod managers

The following table compares information for a number of managers for iPods. Please see the individual products' articles for further information. Please also note that due to changes in The New iPod firmware, only iTunes works with new iPods (although Gtkpod developers have developed a workaround 1).

Multiple operating systems

• Starting with version 7.0, iTunes permits users to sync content purchased on the iTunes Store with computers authorized with the same account.

• EphPod sometimes immediately encounters a fatal error, possibly if your iPod has podcasts downloaded with iTunes. It also corrupts the song database if you use the update feature on an iPod Shuffle.

• Many people have reported that Yamipod will lose your current playlists that are on your iPod which has caused many complaints. There is a recovery tool (Tools->Advanced->Repair in menubar) which will usually help fix your iPod but not necessarily your lost data. In spite of this, many still find it the best alternative to iTunes.

Windows

• SharePod discontinued editing functions in version 2. These features were reintroduced in SharePod 3. 2
• ml_iPod uses ANSI encoding internally, so European characters are supported (Umlauts etc.), but no Unicode support
