Commonwealth (creative studio)
Commonwealth Projects is the creative studio founded by Daniel Desure in 2007. The studio is co-run by Desure and Serge Kirsanov. Commonwealth Projects is a multi-disciplinary creative studio that explores The Intersection of art, design, film, and architecture. The group often consists of a collective of professionals ranging from artists to designers to producers to architects. Together they combine different functions into one idea. They have spent the last 8 years in these fields and continue to explore new frontiers in technology, design, art and space. Their view has always been that different disciplines can adapt to each other and to the specific project. With a unmatched foundation of IDeaS and experience they have developed a vast understanding in creating a unique form of communication.
History
Daniel Desure began producing artwork in early 2003. After producing Doug Aitken's Sleepwalkers for the Museum of Modern Art in 2006, he founded Commonwealth Projects. Their practice includes art production, consulting and design. Commonwealth Projects has worked on a number of significant contemporary art projects with artists and companies such as Omer Fast, Francesco Vezzoli, Nike, Cat Power, Doug Aitken, Isaac Julien, Kenneth Anger and others. Works have been displayed at world class institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art and the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York City and won highly competitive and well regarded awards including the Bucksbaum Award at the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
Production
Domeau and Peres Hot Air Balloon
Created light wall installation, produced event, developed video content and projection, light wall installation, window graphics and overall layout and design of space.
Right you are, If you think you are
Right you are, If you think you are was a live performance and video installation at the Guggenheim Museum by artist Francesco Vezzoli. Commonwealth and artist Francesco Vezzoli developed live video installation with hidden lipstick cameras and a live television mixer. The project was featured on the cover of Flash Art Magazine for the January/February 9 issue.
Phantome Afrique
For the project Phantome Afrique, Commonwealth consulted the artist Isaac Julien to install and fine tune his video installation.
Works with Omer Fast
The Casting
The Casting as a four channel video installation by the artist Omer Fast. Commonwealth produced the film production and consulted on the video installation and projection. The piece went on to receive the Bucksbaum Award at the 2008 Whitney Biennial.
Take a Deep Breath
In 2008, Commonwealth produced Omer Fast's film, Take a Deep Breath.
