Common Citizens
Common Citizens is a hip-hop group based in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. The group consists of members Cameron (Campayne) Sloan, Chad (Lars) Skinner, and Derek (Delay) Born.
History
The group originally met in 2002, when Cameron moved into the small residential area of Barrhaven, Ontario. They originally started out as 'Illiance', which later faded out due to disputes within the group. When Common Citizens was first formed, it was only Cameron and Chad in the group. They recorded an album together called 'People Like Us' in 2006, which now sells exclusively in stores in the Ottawa area. After completing their first album, they teamed up with Derek to begin working on their second full-length album, which is scheduled to be released soon in 2008.
The Beats
Their beats are crafted by Cameron using a combination of samples from vinyl records, as well as other tools such as synthesizers and effect processors. Their beats are compiled mainly on the MPC 2000xl but also take advantage of the digital realm by using software programs, such as FL Studio and Sony ACID Pro.
