Cloud Cuckoo Land (journal)
Cloud Cuckoo Land () is a biannual academic journal of architecture and urbanism published in English, German, and Russian. The journal was established in 1996 and is edited by Eduard Heinrich Führ. Cloud Cuckoo Land is one of the few German architecture periodicals that are not facing commercial pressure.
History
Cloud-Cuckoo-Land was established in 1996 at the Brandenburg University of Technology by its main editor Eduard Führ. The title of the journal was inspired by Aristophanes' comedy The Birds, in which the birds try to establish a space between heaven and earth, named νεφελοκοκκυγία. In 2011, the editorial office was relocated to Bielefeld, Germany.
Authors conferences
Before publishing a new issue Cloud-Cuckoo-Land often organizes an authors conference where authors are invited to present and discuss their papers. One of these conferences was Zur Sprache bringen. Eine Kritik der Architekturkritik (English: Grasping Architecture - A Critique of Architecture Criticism), organized from October 31 through November 2 of 2002 in Cottbus. Other conferences were on Current Views in Architectural Theory, or on Built spaces, from June 23 to 25 of 2004.
Book series
Führ is also the editor of the book series Theoretische Untersuchungen zur Architektur (English: Inquiries Towards a Theory of Architecture), which is based on texts published earlier by the journal. Until now, 5 volumes have been published.
Theory of Architecture Collection
Cloud-Cuckoo-Land hosts the Theory of Architecture Open Text Collection, an archive of digitized historic architectural theory texts which are made available online.
