Chris Smith (American footballer born 1988)

Christopher Smith (born September 1, 1988) is an American football linebacker and student of Nottingham Trent University. He currently plays for the NTU Renegades and can often be seen sporting the number 46 shirt. Chris Smith is in his second season of UK college football.

Biography

Personal life

Born in Bury a town in Greater Manchester he was raised by his Mother, Elizabeth Smith and father, Robert Smith along with three other Brothers and sisters although he has a total of five all together. He attended first St. Stephens primary school before moving to Bury Church of England High School, Even though he was an above average student within the class room he was constantly in trouble and was fortunate to attend with out expulsion. After High school He moved to Bury College to study amongst other things Economics the subject he currently majors in at Nottingham Trent University. He is known to be a keen music fan and enjoys travelling. Both have seen him involved in off the pitch scandals. One rumoured whilst 'partying' with friends in Prague. The other at a music festival (which can not be named for legal reasons). When asked to comment both we're met with the same response 'S**t happens when you party [...]'. These two reported incidents are rumoured to be the reason for him missing out on a scholarship at ole miss.

Early Sporting Achievements

A keen Football player he turn out for Westbury sports FC reaching the Greater Manchester Cup final, a game in which they loss. Although the following year whilst playing for Bury Church of England High School managed to reach another cup final played at Gigg Lane. This team was the very first team in the schools history to reach the final, a final in which they won. Chris Smith even managed to score in between strikes from Andrew Spratt , Currently playing for Missouri Valley College and Ben Donovan. This was called the best game of football ever seen until the same year Liverpool came back from 3-0 down to win the champions league.

Playing career

Nottingham Outlaws

As a fresher of Nottingham Trent University he attended autumn trials where he first impressed several coach's and returning staff, however the early promise that was shown failed materialise into a starting spot for the first game of the season against a strong 18-0 win on the road against Leicester Longhorns. Like Smith the Nottingham Outlaws failed to live up to early promise and losses to the likes of Sheffield Hallam University and the Derby Braves cost the outlaws not only a play-off spot but a place in the challenge shield.

NTU Renegades

During the Post season of 2009 the British University's American football league (BUAFL) proposed that only single institution teams would be able to compete in the 2009/2010 season. This meant that the Nottingham Outlaws where to split. The team name would be taken by the University of Nottingham, whilst NTU would form a brand new team to be names the Renegades. Now in his second year and returning player Chris Smith began to re-find the form that included him in the outlaws squad going on to earning a starting position at Linebacker. The NTU Renegades have also found him to be useful at other positions when injuries have left the small squad with difficulties. Playing both offensive line and Defensive Line with rumours of playing at Full back a possibility. The first season for the renegades has been a good one so far with 5 wins from 6 played, One of which included the very first official game played between the two university's, the 2010 Varsity game held at Harvey Hadden Stadium. A 14-6 Victory which has been dubbed the greatest game of American Football on British soil.
