Chi Combat System
History
Chi Combat System was founded in London , England by Ralph Alison in 2009. The word Chi (or Qi - one of the translated meanings being “flowing energy”) in the name, is of Chinese origin and “Gi” being of Korean origin. The word “Combat” in the name implies it teaches fighting (or: Self Defence) and the word “ System” in the name implies that it has a concept.
After having previously studied other martial arts systems , (see Style and Training) , R. Allison decided to form his own organisation by the name of Chi Combat System in order to merge several martial arts styles together (see Style and Training). The first initial school locations to open for Chi Combat System in that year were located in South London (Morden and Mitcham) , Surrey (Croydon , Sutton, New Malden and Kingston) and Kent (Beckenham).
Style and training
The mission of the art form was to be an evolving style and to blend several martial arts styles into one system. Due to the incorporation of Tae Kwon Do , Choi Kwang Do and Hapkido which are of Korean origin a Korean counterpart / translation of the name Chi Combat System was chosen : “Gi Jeun Do” .The style also incorporates movements from Kickboxing and Jiu-Jitsu as well as stretching , warm-up exercises taken from yoga. Chi Combat System is not designed for competition and training is non-contact
