Chef Obie Ferguson
Obie Justin Ferguson is the head chef and joint owner of Wisteria Southern Gastropub in Morganton, North Carolina.
Career
Ferguson has been credited with changing the way people in his small southern town view their food and their environment by bringing a farm-to-table restaurant to an area where the concept was previously not present. He is known for turning what is considered classic Southern cuisine into upscale renditions. In 2010, he won first place at the Macdown competition in Raleigh, North Carolina.
His restaurant was listed as one of the top seven farm-to-table restaurants in North Carolina in Our State: Down Home in North Carolina Magazine.
Culinary visions
Ferguson is an avid follower of the concepts of sustainability, locality, and quality. By making it a point to purchase as much from local farmers and suppliers as possible, he steer aways from many of the standard conventions of today's food industry. He believes that this is best practice for not only both the consumer and the community, but for the environment as well. He participates regularly in local events such as The Art of Chocolate The N.C. Main Street conference and the March of Dimes Celebrity Chef Auction

He is a lover of nature and the outdoors and routinely enjoys hiking, camping and cycling. He currently resides in Morganton, North Carolina with his two dogs.
