Charles Grant (Scottish footballer)

Charles 'Charlie' Joseph Grant (born 27 January 1987 in Bellshill, Scotland) is a Scottish footballer. He is a former pupil of St Mary's Primary School Hamilton and Holy Cross High School Hamilton.He currently captains Scottish Premier League club Celtic's Under-19 Squad, where he plays in centre midfield. He also represents Scotland at Under-19 level.

At Celtic, he has been a member of the Under-19 squad that won the Scottish Youth League Under-19 Championship and Youth Cup in seasons 2004-2005 and 2005-2006. He was an unused substitute in the final game of the 2005-2006 season for the Celtic Senior squad.

Grant was also a member of the Under-19 Scotland squad that reached the final of the 2006 European Under-19 Football Championship in Poland. Grant was also awarded player of the tournament.

The 2006/2007 season was supposed to be the year Grant was to break into the first team, but unfortunately injury kept him out for the whole season. It is expected that once he is back to full fitness Grant will get his chance in the 2007/2008 season.

Charlie Grant is currently one of the most highly-rated young talents throughout Celtic's Youth system and people are already beginning to draw comparisons to Celtic legend, Paul McStay.

He has also been likened to departing skipper Neil Lennon for his battling qualities on the pitch and his instantly recognisable red hair .
