CF2142

This is the name of a Battlefield 2142 mod and is also the name of a tournament which fights every Saturday from 12pm EST to 8pm EST using the mod. The mod has currently reached (for open release) version 2.44 and all data in this page is AbOUT version 2.44.

The tournament is structured into 2 armies who fight every Saturday using the mod. There is also practice most days of the working week in preparation for Battleday (Saturday). There is separate training for EU and US players to make it more accessible for players from each area.

The tournament officially uses teamspeak as its main source of communication between players but Xfire, MSN and Skype are often used as well.

The Tourney stresses the importance of: fun, communication, teamwork and friendliness. Anybody who plays BF2142 and who wants to join a tourney with a fun mod is invited to join the tourney at the website:

The Armies

The armies have a structured ranking system The top rank is that of the General, s/he is a committed, highly experienced member of the community. He controls everything in the army and handles the more important business of the army and hands outs tasks to the HCO's (High Commanding Officers) and his captains. The HCO's are only answerable to their leader who totally commands the army who's rank is that of the General. His superiors are the tournament administrators. Any soldier can drop a request into the chain of command and have it heard by whomever can deal With It although if necessary anybody can simply talk to the administrators in charge of the tournament.

Each army is divided into several companies, each of which has its own Captain who leads the company, sets practices, cleans the company's forums and cleans the roster. He is supported by a ranked structure of officers and non-commissioned officers which are relied on to carry out many of the tasks in case of the Captains absence and lead at different times on battleday. Out of these companies there are Line companies, and specialised companies: Armor, Air Force, Special Forces. The specialised armor squad will use the ground based vehicles on battleday. The air force, similar in structure to the armor squad, are tasked with using air vehicles if accessible. The Special Forces do the hardest jobs and are usually used as fast response teams to assist the line companies. All these specialised squads will have entry tests that must be passed to enter. The line companies are tasked with doing the main fighting on the ground around the cappable bases. They do almost all the fighting on the ground, either attacking points or defending them.

The Mod

The Mod was created by the Death By design (DBD) team.

The Battle

Every Saturday at 12pm EST an eight hour battle begins. Two armies battle it out in Air, land and water to become victorious and to conquer the precious territory. The tournament encourages teamplay and the armies fight using teamwork and communication.

The battle begins at 12pm EST/ 5pm GMT. Soldiers are not allowed outside of main bases from 4.30pm GMT/ 11.30 EST and the two sides must have a least ten men on each otherwise the battle is forfited. The battle starts with two hours on a prime map - this is a large map which contains lots of vehicles, then there is two hours of a brawl map - this is a relatively small map that contains limited or no vehicles and the main combat is infantry -. After these two hours the prime map is reversed (the sides are swapped around e.g. PAC now comes from east not west and the EU from the west not east) and a further two hours are played. Finally two last hours of the reversed brawl map are played.

The winning General picks the next two maps for the next battle after the battle. These are then fixed and tweaked throughout the week so they are perfected for Battleday.

The Vehicles

The Mod contains all the original vehicles from Battlefield 2142 although these have in many ways been changed while retaining the same skins.

Walker machine guns and missiles having a much long fire time prior to overheat

The EU team's gunship (the Talon) is now a true gunship rather than a hybrid gunship and fighter. Instead of 10 semi-automatic dumb fire missiles against ground units/Anti air tracking missiles; it now has 15 automatically firing dumb fire missiles.

The PAC team's gunship (the Doragon) is no longer identical to the EU's gunship but is now a dedicated bomber with AA capabilities. The co-pilot's primary fire launches a TV missile while it's secondary fire now drops bombs which come in 10 bomb magazines and cannot be stopped by ACTIVE defense (shields). The pilot's armaments consist of 2 AA missiles although a hit is not guaranteed. The plane itself now has no stabilizers and can now do barrel rolls successfully and can also fly at speeds of around ~900.

The APC and other assorted vehicles are now like the Walkers amphibious and float in water instead of being destroyed by it.

The PAC tank (the nekomata) now can carry an additional 4 passengers who sit on the hull and are vulnerable to fire but can use their weapons to retaliate.

Also most hover vehicles can now travel over water though in the case of the tanks with a rocking motion that if prolonged and majorly increased by swerving at high speed can cause sea sickness.

In addition to this the mod team has also created several new vehicles with dedicated roles upon the battlefield.

  • ABR - anti-base-raping weapon. This is a range limited weapon. It is fixed in position and cannot move. It can easily engage both air and land targets. It has a range limited weapon effective to cover a main base but not much beyond that. Its secondary fire launches AA EMP missiles which track air units. Its primary fire is a chain gun highly effective against infantry and vehicles. It is team locked and cannot be used by the opposing side. Both teams have one in their main base and it is very hard to destroy. It adds a certain danger to base raping, since if anybody is inside it, they're in trouble.
  • Aurora Jet - The Crown Jewel of the mod. This jet resembles a jet from BF2. The Primary fire is a high powered anti-infantry/vehicle machine gun and the secondary fire is an AA tracking missile. Pressing 'F' switches the AA missile to 3 bombs which have a large kill radius and are deadly in the right hands. The jet has an AfterBurner and is a VTOL aircraft.
  • Vanguard AA - A new Anti Air vehicle. It has a rapid fire AA machine gun as the primary fire which do no damage to infantry or ground based vehicles. The secondary fire is a heat seaking AA missile which tracks across the map. The Gunner position simply allows someone to be transported, is provides no protection and the solider can use their weapons.
  • Javelin Artillery Tank - This is a completely new idea. It is a mobile artillery piece, brought in due to changes in the mod which has removed orbital strikes. It is visually identical to the original PAC tank except it's barrel can elevate to 90 degrees. It has a single seat and is designed to be able to fire long distances. The secondary fire (right click) launches a "spotting round" which can be tracked by pressing 'C'. This round can be used to spot targets and correct ones aim; it does no damage. The primary fire (left click) can fire two types of explosive. There are two rounds, a small radius round and a large radius round. These weapons can be alternated using the scroll wheel on the mouse.
  • Gladiator - A tank with a primary fire firing 30mm cannon effective against infantry, secondary fire is a vehicle tracking missile which locks on and tracks. It has an additional unprotected seat from which any weapon can be used.
  • Widowmaker Tank - This a tank killer. Visually identical to the normal PAC tank except it has no undercarraige glow. It's gun is similar to the rorsch AT fixed defence and only deals damage with a direct hit. It's gun causes a lot of recoil and any infantry close behind it when it fires will almost certainly be crushed. It's gunner now has a mortar and machine gun.
  • L-DAT - This is an anti-infantry vehicle. Its primary fire launches smoke grenades which are much more effective than the ordinary BF2142's smoke grenades. Its secondary fire fires machine guns, similar to the EU walker's. Pressing "F" key or using the scroll wheel changes the primary fire from smoke to an EMP blast that freezes any vehicle for about 30 seconds allowing it to either escape from heavy vehicles or leaving them helpless so they can be safely killed. It has 5 seats but the back 4 have no weapons.
  • Catapult - A long range, ground based TV missile launcher. It has one seat and looks almost identical to an EU APC except that it has no turrets. It missile explodes in a kind of "napalm strike" with a large kill radius. It's role is similar to the Javelin artillery tanks except that it is more stable and can be used much more precisely.
  • Crusader AA - This is a dedicated anti-aircraft vehicle. It's driver has no armament of any kind and cannot move his viewpoint, i.e. he can only look straight ahead. The gunner's position's primary fire is a rapid fire AA gun which has an extremely long overheat time and does not track. The secondary fire launches AA missiles that are extremely hard to dodge and are deadly in the right hands. The primary fire can also be switched using 'F' to an anti-infantry machine gun.
  • I-FAV - This is a 4 seater jeep, difference is, it's 100% invisible so the only effective way to find it is with radar. The 3rd and 4th positions can use their guns while inside it but cannot reload. The 2nd position (gunner) has no weapons available.
  • Rail FAV - A jeep but its second positions gun's primary fire is similar to the Rorsch fixed AT guns. It however does much less damage than them and cannot be used to fight off vehicles effectively. The secondary fire is the standard jeep machine gun.
  • Piranha - A 6 man boat, it has one mounted weapon - a mortar - and 4 passenger seats which can be fired from.

The Kits

  • Recon

This kit has had several modifications:

    • The stabiliser is built in this kit and is no longer an unlock.
    • The STOCK sniper rifles now have 10 bullets and are semi-automatic.
    • The Zeller is now more powerful and silenced. A soldier will bleed to death after one shot if no medical treatment is supplied.
    • The Lambert Carbine has a faster rate of fire and is slightly more powerful.
    • This kit now has EMP grenades.
    • Can carry 5 rdx but lay up to 10 if re-supplied.
    • Can carry 2 apms but lay 3 if re-supplied.
  • Assault
    • All the assault rifles damage are the same.
    • The Baur has 30 bullets and significantly less recoil.
    • The PK rockets are now only one rocket. It is designed to remove people from their cover by propelling them into the air.
    • The Shotgun attachment is a lot faster, more deadly and has 10 shells in a clip.
    • The medi-box now heals much faster
  • Engineer
    • The SAAW has been replaced with the AA-54 pilum. This weapon does not track but is designed to take down slow, low flying air vehicles.
    • The Vehicle PDS now also detects infantry.
  • Support
    • The Ganz is now only effective as a defensive weapon and it takes time to align the sights. It is only accurate in a stationary position.
    • Now has motion mine bait.
    • Now carries 1 sentry gun but if re-supplied can lay 2.
    • Can lay 2 Supply Boxes

Miscellaneous Info On The Mod

There have also been several general changes in the mod which differ from the original game as well as general info on the mod:

  • Infantry now bleed to death at 15HP or fewer
  • The knife now requires multiple hits to kill with varying damage being dealt on the various sections of the body
  • Blood is now produced when you are hit by any weapon
  • The mod comes with several stock maps but most have to be downloaded separately from the CF Website
  • Several original BF2 maps have been converted to run on the mod including: Fu She Pass, Karkand and Gulf of Oman
  • There are also original maps available with distinctive features such as "The Push Night" where all fighting is contained inside a narrow urbanized strip of land
  • The commanders ability to drop artillery anywhere has been MODIFIED on a round to round basis and has been augmented with the ability to drop a Tactical Nuclear Weapon once per round.
  • The commander cannot drop the Nuke wherever he/she wishes, a squad leader must request target the location before it can be dropped.
  • Shockingly enough the nuke doesn't generate any lag when used.
