The Central Kentucky Chargers are a semi-professional American football team based in Danville, Kentucky. They are currently members of the American Division in the Mid Continental Football League.
History
The Studs were admitted to the Mid Continental Football League by the Expansion Committee on February 24, 2008 by a vote of 5-4.
Nickname
The team nickname Studs, comes from the fact that the central Kentucky region is famous for horse breeding.
The name was changed to the Chargers on 8/4/08, after a poll conducted on the team's website.
Other proposed names were Stars, Stallions, Trojans, Blitz, and Crusaders.
Kentucky Wolverines
At the end of the 2008 season, the Chargers folded and merged with the Hardin County Wolverines to form the Kentucky Wolverines. This is technincaly and extension of the Hardin County club.
