CDH Proton Center
The CDH Proton Center is the first and, the only, proton therapy center in Illinois. Located in Warrenville, the center specializes in treating adults and children with cancer using proton beam therapy.
History
Proton therapy has been used as a cancer treatment in the US since 1990, when the first hospital-based proton therapy center was opened at the Loma Linda University Medical Center in California. Currently, there are only 14 centers in the United States that perform proton therapy.
Affiliation
The CDH Proton Center opened in 2010, and was originally a joint venture between Illinois-based companies, Central DuPage Hospital and Radiation Oncology Consultants Ltd. (ROC), and ProCure, a New York-based company that manages multiple proton therapy centers across the US. Cadence Health bought out ProCure’s investment in mid-2013, and now holds a majority ownership stake.
Cadence Health is a hospital system that serves Chicago’s northwest suburbs and surrounding regions. It currently operates Central DuPage Hospital in Winfield, Delnor Hospital in Geneva, and the CDH Proton Center in Warrenville in partnership with ROC.
Physicians
The CDH Proton Center is able to treat up to 1,500 patients per year. Physicians at the CDH Proton Center are members of Radiation Oncology Consultants (ROC), Chicagoland’s largest private practice radiation oncology group. ROC is made up of more than 20 physicians who treat a comprehensive array of tumor types.
