Capital Lyceum

Capital Lyceum is an independent, coeducational school in Schenectady, New York. The School features a low student to teacher ratio and a rigorous college preparatory curriculum. The school also has an emphasis on community service and on inquiry-based learning. The school is applying to Middle States accreditation and is recognized by The New York State Department Of Education.

Capital Lyceum also serves as the Northeast Regional Training Center for The Hawn Foundation’s mindfulness education program.

History

The Capital Lyceum was conceived and created by Dr. Marc Anthony Meyer after he left The School at Columbia University in New York City.

The School will reside in a building on the grounds of the Schenectady Light Opera Company, in a building previously occupied by Bethseda House. The name Capital Lyceum was chosen to emphasize a focus on classical and inquiry-based learning and its location in the Capital Region of New York.

Mission

Capital Lyceum's Mission Statement: "Capital Lyceum is a dynamic and diverse educational community serving ninth through twelfth grades. It's dedicated faculty strives to maintain a genuine and enduring partnership among the school, its families, and the community at large. Our rigorous academic program fosters a sense of social responsibility, resourcefulness, integrity, and an appreciation of learning for understanding in our students. Our curriculum embraces the needs of young people, and produces confident, articulate and knowledgeable individuals."

Student Body

Capital Lyceum’s projected student enrollment in 2013-2014 will be approximately 150 students from grades 9-12. Capital Lyceum's students are primarily from the eight counties surrounding Albany, from as far south as the Berkshires to as far north as Saratoga Springs.
