CAM-SUST (Copernicus Astronomical Memorial of SUST)

CAM-SUST (Copernicus Astronomical Memorial of SUST) is a non-profit astronomical organization of Shahjalal University of Science and Technology (SUST). This organization arranges many events to spread the astronomy among common mass as well as the students of different schools, colleges and universities.

History

CAM-SUST was established by few astronomy lover of SUST campus. They were very much excited to know the mystery of universe but they have no way to discuss AbOUT it, they thought to make a club or a society for the astro lover in where they can discuss about the astronomy, they can learn about the vast knowledge of astronomy. Then Mr. Rony Basak, Assistant Professor of Department Of Geography and Environment helped them to modify their thinking and Prof. Dr. Susanta Kumar Das (1st chief advisor) gave them the opportunity to make a Astronomical organization in the campus. Since 17-7-2012 CAM-SUST become a registered organization of SUST.

Project 100 (Telescope Project)

It’s a project CAM-SUST launched in 2014 in a collaboration of its new members. The purpose of this is to make handmade telescopes and learn the mechanism of telescope lenses and mounts. Now they are developing its digital mount system and ensuring the clarity level of focusing objects.

IT Wing

As the recent world is mostly dependent on technology, CAM-SUST IT wing aims at utilizing this opportunity to establish a friendly bridge between technology and astronomy. CAM-SUST IT wing is taking initiative to make mobile apps, desktop software, website, forum and games which will awaken that curiosity among the tech-loving youth as well as others. This team consists of about 30 members and they are trained in few steps.

App development

This team of CAM-SUST IT wing makes mobile applications related to astronomy. They are first trained and then they develop applications. Usually they build android applications. They also make iPhone applications, Microsoft apps.

Documentary & Animated film

This is the newest sub wing of IT Wing. This team does animations and give life to a picture to make astronomy easy to the youngsters. They also make animated short films on astronomy. This team also make video lectures on astronomy and publish them on YouTube . This wing has a YouTube channel.

Training

This section of CAM-SUST IT Wing trains the members programming languages (C, JAVA, Objective C, Python etc) and Markup Languages (HTML, HTML5, CSS, JS etc). This team also trains graphics and animation to whom those who will be connected to the Animated Film sub wing.
