C. Andrew Salzberg

C. Andrew Salzberg is an American surgeon and breast reconstruction specialist who pioneered the "One-Stage Breast Reconstruction with Implant" or “Direct-To-Implant” breast reconstruction utilizing the acellular tissue matrix AlloDerm.

Biography

Career, education and residency

Salzberg specializes in cosmetic surgery and breast surgery. He is the Chief of Plastic Surgery at Dobbs Ferry Community Hospital and Westchester Medical Center.

Born and raised in New Jersey, Salzberg and attended Montclair Academy, Ithaca College and Cornell University. He graduated from the University of Florida School of Medicine with his Medical Doctorate in 1981. He did his residency in General Surgery at Beth Israel Medical Center in New York (1981–87) and Plastic Surgery residency at Mount Sinai Medical Center (1984–87).

A board certified diplomate of the American Board of Plastic Surgery, Salzberg completed residencies at the Beth Israel Medical Center (general surgery), Mount Sinai Medical Center (Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery), Cornwall Regional Hospital in Montego Bay, Jamaica, Hospital of Joint Diseases - Orthopedic Institute (hand service) and the Cornell University Burn Unit.

As a part of The New York Group for Plastic Surgery, based in Tarrytown and Goshen, New York, Salzberg also specializes in cosmetic and breast surgery.

Professional activities, appointments and distinctions

Salzberg has lectured internationally and has presented papers on plastic surgery worldwide. He has presented his surgical methods and results to surgeons worldwide, lecturing on the range of tools available in breast reconstruction surgery. Currently, AlloDerm® Tissue Matrix in breast reconstruction is supported by more peer-reviewed papers than have been published for all other competing products combined.

Currently, Salzberg is Chief of the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery - Community Hospital Dobbs Ferry, Dobbs Ferry, NY 1998–present. Since 1987, he has been an Associate Professor of Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology at New York Medical College. Previous to that appointment, Dr. Salzberg was the Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Castle Point Veterans Administration Medical Center.

His research activities include breast reconstruction, nerve repair, skin substitutes and laser applications in skin care, pressure ulcer prevention and treatment wound healing lectures. The consumer guide, "America’s Top Doctors" named Salzberg one of the "Top Doctors for Women from Coast to Coast" published by the Ladies Home Journal. Salzberg has also been named one of the top doctors in the New York Metro Area yearly since 2002.
